Day 72 Matthew 26:31 Matthew 26:31 Then said Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. 32 But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. 33 Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. 34 Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 35 Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. Have you ever said something you meant with all your heart, your convictions were good, and you thought nothing could ever stand in the way of those convictions? Jesus told his disciples what they would do because of him that night. Yet, they all said they wouldn’t desert him, and Peter vehemently told Jesus he would die with him. However, Jesus told Peter, he would deny him, not once, but three times. Everyone has a moment of truth. No one knows exactly how they will react to difficult situations until they are in the middle of it. As Christians, you know Peter’s moment of truth was upon him, he just hasn’t realized it yet. It was the same with the rest of the disciples. Have you had your moment of truth? How did you fare? Was it a moment of shame and defeat, or a moment of victory? We all want to believe that when the time comes when we need to step up and prove ourselves, we will come through. However, that is not always the case. Even David prayed that his words would be acceptable to God. Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. (KJV) One thing I was always told was that I was to think before I spoke. Peter spoke before thinking about what was about to happen. With everything Jesus told them about his coming death and resurrection, none of them fully understood the scope about what was about to happen that night. They spoke and affirmed without thinking it through. When faced with those monumental life changing moments in your life, think first before you speak. Let’s pray: Father, put a watch on my mouth. Help me see the situation facing me before I jump to conclusions and speak without knowing all the facts. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
