Play it Again, Sam #9b - "Emma"

Yes, I am the "goth guy" here on MyLot, and that underappreciated genre rears it's liquid smoke-shrouded head once again in this morning's Play it Again, Sam. We are at #9b, the "cover" portion: The Sisters of Mercy's cover of Hot Chocolate's "Emma." Although vocalist/leader Andrew Eldritch vehemently insists that The Sisters of Mercy are not a goth band (and he's right. They aren't. Anymore.) they were, early on, as goth as it gets, and are legendary within the genre. Back in the early days, the Sisters used to record covers for use as B-Sides for some of their singles, and "Emma" was right in their wheelhouse. If ever a song was just sitting around waiting for the goth treatment, it was the morbid "Emma." The Sisters had been performing the tune in concert since 1983, and finally got around to releasing a proper studio version as the B-Side of their 1988 single, "Dominion." For awhile, the only other place that I could find the song, although I'm sure there were other sources, was on the Some Boys Wander by Mistake bootleg (which I once paid thirty bucks for a copy on CD!), although the song was finally included as a bonus track on the 2006 CD reissue (which is the copy that I have on my iPod) of their 1987 album, Floodland. Did I fall all over myself praising this cover enough? "Emma" is one of my all-time favorite songs. The Sisters totally did it justice! (Info verified by Wikipedia)
