How do you feel about lending money to a friend? How do you feel about borrowing money from a friend? Is it a good thing to do? Have you done it? Do you refuse to do so? How do you feel about it? What has been your experience?

I do not like to ask money and I do not like to lend money to a friend. This is a sure way to lose the friend (and the money).

I'm not a borrower of anything and thankfully it has really been rare that I have borrowed but I hurry to repay it back when it has happened.

@1hopefulman When I asked something, I immediately gave back. Every time someone asked something to me it never came back.

If I remember correctly, I have only borrowed from my brothers and parents. I'm too embarrassed to borrow from a friend. I have lent many times. There are those that paid back quickly, those that paid back years later and those that forgot that they borrowed.

There are so many verses in the Bible that talk about not borrowing or lending as it makes you a servant to the person you borrowed from, and makes them a servant to you if you lend them money. The Bible also says, it's better to give than to receive. If you give instead of lend, you free yourself and the person from any bondage, as they might never be able to pay you back.

Yes, there is good counsel found in the Bible. There are even some verses about lending without interest.

I think it's good to help friends but only when they give the trust to you to return back money...

Hi Felix. We used to but then we stopped lending money because they would not pay at all and they have the audacity to even get mad at us for reminding them to pay.

There are some strange people on this planet! I hate people that promise to give it back and never do. Now, when I lend money, I assume that they will not repay and so only lend what I can afford to lose and if it comes back I am surprised.

@1hopefulman There are a lot, Felix. I do not understand how they manage to have a thick-face. It is okay if they have not promised anything so we wont be expecting anything. You are still kinder than me.

I think it is not a good idea to lend money to anybody. I also don't like lending money as I am afraid they will not return the money. But I know sometimes it is just too difficult to say no.

Yes, sometimes we can't refuse and then we are wise to only give what we can afford to lose in case for some reason they can't or don't give it back.

I tried to avoid both things. I don't like to borrow money from friends and I don't lend money to friends unless it is an emergency. In the past I had a friend who borrowed money from me. We were neighbors at that time. I don't know where she lives today and she has never returned the money.

Sadly, such things happen and so we have to be careful as we don't know if they will ever get it back. So, my policy is to only lend what I can afford to lose just in case.

@1hopefulman I did lend money a long time ago to someone and I think they left the country and not sure if we established it as a lone. I never got it back. We need our money so at times I will give to people but not always. I want us to be secure.

Bad idea to borrow anything from anyone, least, from friends and family. OK to lend money ONLY if you have no intention to get it back. (Can't most of the time anyway .)

I agree with Anna and Darcy Nemo. It happened people to lose both, friend and money. It's true too, there are exceptions, emergencies, even if emergencies it's not too ordinary.

Yes, it is. Especially if the friend you're lending money to is me . I used to lend money, I'm still doing it, but now is harder because I have many more expenses than before. I just choose the persons I'm lending money to. It's all up to you

@1hopefulman to lend or not to lend... That is the question! Actually, today I had to borrow some money from my godfather . So, the answer is: to lend!

I used to but I stopped since they've been doing it in a weekly basis without paying. I was stupid and nice enough to trust them then after that they hated me for being "selfish". Lol.

@1hopefulman No thankfully although once it took a long time for a friend to pay for an item she bought - and she hadn't asked first if it was okay not to pay straight away so that was a bit disappointing.

No matter who you loan money to there is always that risk of never getting that money back. I remember I loaned $20 to a coworker once but she never gave it back to me. I think the one person I would not hesitate to loan money to is my mom. I know she will give it back. If she owes me a penny she will make sure I get it, even if I tell her I don't want it.

I've lent money 2 friends and the reaction was not good when i asked 4 it back!!! My best friend caught an attitude when i asked 4 it back!! When i told her i didn't have it, she said I know U have it!! It was ridiculous, i always treated her in high school when she didnt have the money!!! Another friend was just simply highway robbery!! I let her use my credit card!!! She went waaaaay over what she was supposed to use!!! When i saw her a few years later, she maneuvered away from me and cut me off!! And the same with a co worker monique!! I lent her 20.00 and she waved her hand at me like she was brushing dirt off her clothes when i asked 4 it back!!!! the last time i got brushed off was last year!!! This time we almost got into a physical altercation!!! I told her that i didnt have bus fare and that i said that i wouldnt ask until i needed it back and take her time!!! I wasnt taking no for an answer!!! she did give most of it back!!!!
