My gross weekend : Part 2 (Not for those with a weak stomach)

After we went to bed Friday night my boyfriends son woke me up at 12:30 to tell me his dog threw up. I know she hadn’t eaten her breakfast or dinner so assumed she had an upset stomach and would be okay in the morning. We woke up Saturday morning to quite a few piles of vomit through the kitchen and dining room which I cleaned up. My boyfriend thought getting her out for a hike and a swim would be good for her. I didn’t agree but we went on a gorgeous hike through the game lands. She continued vomiting up until 10pm which was 22 hours. I started questioning him about what emergency vets he knew of etc. He didn’t want me to but I shut her in the kitchen overnight so if she got sick it wouldn’t get all over the carpeting. It was a good thing I did because today when we woke up the strench reached our noses from upstairs. She had pooped blood all over the kitchen. It took me a long time to clean it up and it sunk under the vinyl tiles and kept seeking out. The only thing she ate was around 1pm and she threw that up on the dining room mat so then I had to shampoo it. He still didn’t take her to the vet. He said he’s seen this a lot with his parents beagles they bred. They eat something really nasty and it sits and rots in their gut. He called his father to find out what they gave the dogs for it. He said a certain kind of dewormer. So he went and bought that. She finally ate about a handful of food an hour ago and thankfully has kept it down. The only good part of this day has been the Dunkin’ Donuts doughnuts he brought home after going to get her dewormer. To make things difficult my dog is going into heat and we’ve had a extreme heat wave here. Photo is of the sick dog and my dog cuddled up sleeping on the couch next to my boyfriend for a nap yesterday.

That's too bad that the dog was so sick. I used to make our dog a little chicken broth when she had an upset tummy. And if she kept that down, then I'd add some broken up pieces of bread to it. But slowly.

@Juliaacv that is really good advice. I should keep a can of chicken broth on hand just in case. A can is pretty cheap to buy. Bread I always have on hand.

@shaggin Its the same idea as when we have tummy issues (flu) and we have to stick to clear fluids until things settle. I keep the oxo sachets on hand, just add boiled water and there's my chicken broth.

Oh no. That is a lot of cleaning and it's his dog! He didn't help you out one bit. :( I hope his dog gets better soon!

He laid around a lot and relaxed and I had a ton of cleaning to do. Better though that I cleaned and he watched his dog to get it outside when it needed so it didn't keep getting sick all over the house. Plus his version of clean and my version are very different!

@shaggin Oh yes :) Sometimes someone elses version of clean is not suiting for our eyes so we mind as well do it ourselves. But it'd be nice if the thought helps.

Just wondering, if she didn't eat anything, how could she keep vomiting? Your guy really should have done the cleaning up, and should have at least asked his dad for advice a lot sooner than he did.

@BarBaraPrz he is pretty laid back about things so I was a lot more worried about his dog then he was. It wasn't until we woke up to all that blood that he realized he should have listened to me and not taken her hiking with us the day before. She was throwing you water and bile mostly since there was nothing in her stomach.

@BarBaraPrz She was drinking but not enough she usually guzzles water all day long. I told them even for humans it's usually 8-12 hours at the most. 22 hours of vomiting is not normal or good for a dog! I was really worried. He was going to take her swimming the next morning until he saw all the blood. Before we went to bed I already planned to not allow him to take her anywhere until she was eating normally and not vomiting anymore. I was glad that day with all the blood he let her lay around and rest.

@Shellyann36 She is better now but I haven't seen her since. I still can smell the odor from his dog in my kitchen so I think I am going to have to rip the tiles up to bleach under then and relay new ones down.

Oh, gross! Your boyfriend is a lazy b*st*rd! After the first time she had a problem, she wouldn't have been allowed back into my house, especially if he didn't clean the mess up himself! (If he didn't like it, he could stay outside! Or go home as I would have been too mad to allow him back in, too!)

@Daddyevil When I was younger I would have raged over this for a week but now I am able to let things go easier. By the morning I was over it. He is gross the little he cares about germs and gross things. His son is learning his ways and is going to be the same way so I feel bad for his wife someday. I am dying to go hiking by my house is a mess from being gone for 4 days and my boyfriend and his son and dog being over last night so I have a ton of cleaning to do. I am sitting down to catch up on mylot for 10 minutes while the dryer finishes a load of laundry.

@shaggin I don't 'rage' over things. I say my piece calmly and then ensure what I say goes or the other person will find themselves outside without a way (or invite) back in! I hope you still had time for a hike after you finished cleaning everything up!

@Courtlynn My posts that I don't find to be as gross as this have sent Sharon running for the bathroom so I figured those with a weak stomach really could use a warning.

@rakski I am so glad she is better too. I hope she never gets sick like that again and I will make sure to add to my grocery list to buy wormer for my dog so this won't happen to her if it is what made his dog so sick.

Oh, that poor dog and poor you for having to do all the cleaning. When any of our dogs were stomach sick, we were told by the vet, after an examination, to give them a mixture of browned ground beef, white rice, and stewed tomatoes. It worked. Hope the doggy feels much better now.

That is wonderful to know thank you for telling me that. I am going to make a note of it on my phone in case our dogs are ever sick again. My dogs been so stinking picky. She wants new foods to try all the time and after a few days gets sick of it and won't eat.
