this is my second time to make steamed pineapple cake using an instant cake mix, canned pineapple juice and canned pineapples. i got the idea when i saw a small box of maya oven toaster butter cake mix in the supermarket. i tried making it for the first time back in march. surprisingly, it was a success. hahaha! i wanted to make it again, but it took awhile to find another supermarket that stocked this maya cake mix because i never saw it there again. this is the picture of the second time i made steamed pineapple cake. the recipe at the back of the box calls for: softened butter, eggs, water and 1 pack maya oven toaster butter cake mix 200g. we didn't have enough butter so i used oil instead. i used dole pineapple juice, instead of water. i drained the crushed pineapples and pineapple tidbits, then added them to the mixture. i steamed it for 12 minutes first, then extended it to 15 minutes. i'm not really into cooking and baking. so when i do, i take a lot of shortcuts. what shortcuts do you take in the kitchen? what hot or cold drink would you have with this steamed pineapple cake?

@Icydoll if you don't have an oven, you can try steaming. i've seen blogs and videos from india. i guess i'm mistaken thinking most indians like tea. do you drink coffee?

@vandana7 the question at the end of the post was, what hot or cold drink would you have with this steamed pineapple cake? (imagine i'm serving this to you)

waxed paper. that's another reason i "bake" once in a while - to use up stocks of baking materials. so will it be tea, coffee or juice?

Looks good! I think coffee is the perfect match to that yummy cake of yours. There are moments at home that I wanna mess up my kitchen, I enjoyed cooking with random( readily available ingredients). So far all of those experiments turned out okay and acceptable. Haha.

@hereandthere baking using rice cooker? Wow! How?

@cttolledo after checking lots and lots of blogs with pictures. hehe. it's tedious, though, because you have to press the start button again and again, so i switched to the toaster, then the steamer.

coffee is good. now i just realized cold calamansi juice would be good, too. i've also tried "baking" using a toaster and the rice cooker.

That sounds delicious. My oven is no longer functioning and so I can’t bake again except when I use rice cooker. You give me an idea of steaming a cake rather than baking it.

Oh my I want to try it. But it is really hard to find that kind of mix from Maya. The most common Maya product on the shelves are the pancakes and brownies.

@hereandthere I am seeing some banana cake mix. But I don't like how it taste. It is so. Bland unlike the pancakes and brownies.

i steamed it because there were 3 options at the back of the box: using an oven, a toaster, or steamer. if i served you this, would you eat it with coffee, tea, juice, etc?

maya is a philippine brand. at the back of the box there have instructions on how to bake it using an oven, using a toaster, and using a steamer.

I have black coffee with sweet desserts. I often will use milk in a box mix cake. It is said to make it taste richer. Ours usually call for oil. What you did sounds great to me.

sometimes i use pancake mix that's the 'just add water' kind when i want to experiment and substitute flavored drinks.

I have never try a pineapple cake before. It looks nice! I am not good at cooking or baking as well. My daughter keeps asking me to bake together with her lately. I have bought a pack of cake flour, and I'll get one day to just make perhaps the simple butter cake or sponge cake. I have made a few times, but not really successful.
