We can learn about what we should have as a wife material to make us outstanding. Please come share our views on this?

Is there really such a thing? Several years ago, my uncle, bless his soul, actually told me I was no wife material. You know why he said that? I can't cook. My answer to him was, I don't really care if I'm no wife material, I can live on my own without a husband. If my husband wants to marry someone who can cook, and do household chores, then he should marry a housemaid and not me.

@augusta123 Most of the chefs I know are males anyway and I don't think I need to be a cook to be a great wife and a mom.

You are true. There are people who think that girl should know cooking and house chores then only she can make happy family but I believe it is a myth. It takes both the partners to make happy family. And why people question wife material and not husband material!!

I agree with @aureliah. You should know your responsibilities as a wife/ mother and love your family.

I find that term pretty offensive. If you are writing about women, calling them 'wife material' is like calling men 'army material' or 'office material'. I don't know if you are a man or a woman or where you live but it's horrible to reduce people to one part of their potential roles in life.

I don't get you,is this not what women that are role models called.search out the meaning out first?

@augusta123 No, I really don't think you do 'get me'. And I don't think you would if I kept trying to explain. Women are human beings. They exist for greater purposes than being 'wife material' - but I suspect that's a literal translation and I'm not sure that you realise it makes no sense in English.

@augusta123 Yeah. Being a good housewife does not mean you know how to cook, you know how to clean the house and you know how to care for your kids. You need to be responsible, loving and understanding wife as well.

I think the learning never ends

@augusta123 I agree with you. You asked about wives and that is what we responded to. If it was about both then we would give qualities for both

Wife material? This sounds as if women were objects to be sold at the market.
