Why do some users shy away from admitting they are here for the money as well

It was proved when myLot stopped paying. Although while they were paying there were any number who vouched that their intention of being there was just for fun but when myLot stopped paying all those who were here just for fun vanished into thin air. I do agree many here do not depend on what they earn here for their living but those few cents that jingle in our coffers do bring a kind of joy that keeps us going here. Having said that one should aim at having fun and cents will follow.

If enough users are still here and my internet system is working I would still be here, because I enjoy the interaction. In any event it would take two months earnings if I am to buy groceries to last me 1 week.

That is bad manners to compare myLot earnings with what you can buy with it.

I fully agree with you. Of course the money I make here does not change my life, but this makes me happy to know that I have a few dollars every months that are totally mine and I can spend as I like.

I tried to continue when they quit paying but it was too yucky and full of spam. Yes, I am here for the money, and the people. No place like it. I do like to push my bank and I feel sad when I neglect it.

Oh yes, I think I remember the nasty spam as well. After the old format changed, it began to get run down.

I was there too but there was no fun. The money that one earns here is an indication that users are interested in reading what we post.

I was still posting here during the Bubblews exodus though the place was a complete ghost town. There are sites where I make more money but I still post in Mylot at least once a day because of some people I like.

Many of us have online sites where there are more earnings but myLot is a fun place and believe me if they stoop paying there will be no point in coming as who will you interact with?
• Calgary, Alberta
6 Jul 18
@allknowing There are some people who stayed but yeah I got stuck with 4 people during those times and newbies who didn't know Mylot stopped paying around 2013.

The payment is so tiny and inconsequential that I can't claim to be here 'for the money'. But then I'm very active on Amazon and TripAdvisor and neither pay a penny.

Even though the payment is tiny as you put it the field was empty when they stopped paying.

@boiboing Earnings are nothing but a sign that the user is appreciated and their responses are commented on and discussions responded to.

@allknowing The problem becomes that the people who don't care about the money don't get what they do want (the interactions and the social stuff) if the people who DO care all leave the site.

Before myLot stopped paying in 2013 there were several discussions about this topic ("Will you still be here if myLot stops paying?") Most people said that they were going to stay. When it actually happened most people left. I visited the site after they stopped paying. There was so much spam, and I quickly lost my patience. I didn't want to go through all the boring stuff to find the few good discussions. I think that most people left because myLot stopped paying, but some of us left because we didn't like the changes that happened after they stopped paying.

@allknowing Before myLot stopped paying some people said that they would stay without payment if their friends stayed. But that was one of the problems, so many of our friends left and it wasn't the same site anymore

I checked my account and the last payment I got was in April 2016. So do you think I am here for the money? I always come here expecting to see all my old friends, but seems like many of them have gone elsewhere to earn. myLot just isn't the same like it used to be. Kind of quiet these days, so I just come and go and then come back again whenever I have the time. But I will not forget myLot and the good pals I made here.

Enjoying the fun while earning.

I've read it often also on other sites that people haven't joined to earn money. They claim to be there only for the satisfaction and glory of writing. I've never trusted such claims.

@MALUSE Most here do not need the money they earn here for their survival but the feeling that users want to interact that in turn reflects in the earnings is surely something one looks forward to.

@allknowing No, I joined later. Even though I don't need the money I earn here, I like getting paid. I live in an expensive country. My monthly myLot earnings buy me three cups of cappuccino in a coffee bar. :-)

Not all people are the same. I quit the other paid site even though I had 30$+ in the "bank". It wasn't about the money. Its a matter of feeling connected and having the time to be active. I'm here because I enjoy it. The money is a bonus but not the reason I make posts or reply to others.

@allknowing the sense of community felt absent. A lot of the people were no longer posting or if they did it didn't feel like it was for actual connections. I just didn't have the time to justify logging in anymore.

I spend more time on a couple of sites that do not pay users. They are sites for specific interests of mine. For me, this site is for socializing. As long as people are here socializing, I will be socialize here. I got a payment in December and a payment in May. Might be December again before I get the next one.

@allknowing I never heard of myLot until Bubblews closed. So no. But as I say, I spend time on sites that don't pay. More time than I spend here. If it was social, I would still be here. Full of spam, then no I wouldn't.

That's not the case for me, as myLot has started paying a few years back and I'm only back now. And I had deleted my old account while they were still paying. But I do agree the earning part makes it interesting because it's not everyday that you get to see a ptp site.
