I Want To Retire Like You

When I was around 20 years old and I seen someone my age and out working I always said "I hope I am able to work like that when I am old" I find that statement hilarious now. Retirement means you are barely walking and about to fall over and croak! On The forth while visiting my uncle, his son that is only about 5 years younger than me said "I just want to retire like you are now" I literally laughed at him. He looked at me like what did I say funny? I told him I am so far from being retired and told him I have to take care of the houses and Tony, that I am working every day, sometimes two jobs a day, he does not know about my future store and I am not telling people, yet. I am not retired! He also owns a few rentals but mostly he flips houses as for sale by owner or rent to buy and he works daily. He commented he wants just the houses to work on. Boy is he fooling himself thinking this is retirement. When I have more time I need to sit him and his wife down and let them in on the "super" repair costs of things that just happen, like replacing $5,000 septic tanks and roofs because he has not gotten into those costs yet, flipping is not all its made out to be, some people still won`t pay. Seriously, I do not think I will ever retire and just sit at home, that would bore me to death. When I am 90 I will be one of those old ladies in a hover around wheelchair looking over into the Grand Canyon that we see on t.v. How do you view being old and retired?

See you are a good example of still going at the age when people think differently.

I want something to do, something new and exciting always. I have been doing the landlady thing longer than any of the other businesses and I am ready for change once again. As long as I get my 8 hours of sleep each night I am ready to get up and go.

I "retired" when the lymphoma retired me and took away all my energy. I am a survivor, I admit it. But my legs and feet are not what they were and I had to sell my car because my hands trembled a lot during a long time. Then I changed my habits. I put aside what I canĀ“t do anymore. I have retired of my old life

I love retirement. I have my pets, home and yard to keep me busy when I'm not foolin around online. My schedule is my own.

But what if a tenant has issues with a rental @andriaperry don't you usually have to fix the problem pretty quickly? I only know a little about being a landlady because a friend of mom's used to be one and she was always complaining about how her renters constantly called to have something repaired.

@rebelann Yes I do, In the lease I have one week to get something going. But the main thing is setting what is for me to repair and what they tore up, I also have an inspection for them to do and sign. If they break out a window, they fix it because its not my fault, the window was fine when they moved in. If they are careless and allow the water pipe to freeze, they fix it, I have in the lease that they have to be cared for in the winter, since I cannot come in their house turn on the heat and allow the water to drip if needed for the cold night. What I fix depends on the problem, like I am cutting down the trees that fell because of the storm, that is what is called an act of God and no one is responsible but since its my property I do it.

Luckily there is no retirement for me as I am working for a private firm as they reappoint you even after retirement to continue the job! I wouldn't have quit working had there been any retirement for me as that would have made me dull and ambition less person! I appreciate your views about the retirement and I am also having similar views like your dear friend!

My parents are both in their 60s and haven't retired yet...in fact most of the older people I know haven't retired. I don't think most people can afford to retire! My parents have been married for 38 years and are actually considering getting divorced once it's time to retire because they would each draw more social security that way...it is sad that people have to think like that, just to be sure they can afford to keep living after retirement. As for me, the future scares me. I have nothing put away for old age. And I freelance for a living so I won't qualify for social security, since I have not paid much into it (not since I quit working a regular job.) Unless I become a best selling author or something else in my life changes...I don't know what I'll do. I know that is something I should be planning for, because although I'm only 34 right now, time slips away fast.

I don't know, it's supposed to be some time in the distant future for me. What I want is a house in the countryside where I could stay with my wife and drink a cup of coffee with her.

It's nice to retire at the age of 40 and you got everything you have. And all you have to do is travel and travel. But it is hard to earn today and you have tow wait until your 60 before you can retire-- which is you are already old to do more stuffs like traveling.

I have traveled and seen places but its a different type of travel and as we get older what we do on trips do change, when I was 30 I would be in the clubs dancing every night and laying on the beach all day, Now I will go dancing once and find other things of interest to see and do.

@andriaperry Yes you're right, as we get older our energy is not not like before when we are younger. And our preference of things is changing too.

I will never be completely retired. Right at this moment my care giving obligations have me tied up, but not working at a job is making me bats. I may go to working only two or three days a week. I could not be back full time at the school because I was sick all the time and because in August I have a couple of obligations and felt I could not take the time off. I may go apply for something and just tell them my limits.

I retired earlier than anticipated because the company I worked for closed. I'm happily retired and enjoying not having to punch a clock. I worked hard for many years so retirement came as an easy adjustment. Thankfully I am still healthy. I can certainly picture you zipping around in your hover wheelchair and enjoying your old age.

I think I would love to retire once I have enough money to live remaining life. It could be at 40. 50 or 55...I cant imagine myself working after 60 years.

When I think retirement I think travelling the world, doing and seeing all the things my working life and raising children never offered the time or funds for.
