What A Thing To Say.

At a cremation some friends who were mourning
were discussing a few things concerning
the man who was dead,
then one of them said
"I should think that his ears must be burning".
This is intended as a joke folks. If your 'ears are burning' it means that someone is talking about you.
Have you ever said or heard anything inappropriate or funny at a funeral or cremation?

I have never said anything but I do know people who have broken up in laughter just to ease the tension and pain and then quickly have to get themselves together. I always get too sentimental and have to chock back tears.

I haven't been to many cremations. So I can't join in. :-(
But this reminds me that I've wanted to write about the preparation of a cremation which was funny. The post will have more impact in winter, though. Cold winter weather is essential for the story. Just you wait! :-)

Not that I can think of.
Word play gives out different meanings, that's why English is so difficult.

@jaboUK I wouldn't have know the saying either if Jeff and Dani hadn't used that one here in the past. We use the phrase "having the hiccups" or when you sneeze, it means someone is remembering you. Now that would be a sight if the deceased suddenly have the hiccups or sneeze because people were talking about them and remembering them.

I cannot think of anything right at the moment, but this was a good one.

@jaboUK Its getting harder that is for sure. I used to tell people you want to get your brains back. You need at least an hour of alone time doing nothing. Not watching TV Not on the internet just straight summarizing the day. To be honest Its damn near impossible to pull off that feat for even someone like me who prioritizes their life around alone time.

@crossbones27 That seems fair enough. I like some 'alone time' too, but don't get enough of it.

i hope, if this situation is real, the relatives of the departed are not hurt with that remark. otherwise that is a funny joke.

I was working for a very wealthy person for twenty-five years and even later to see that all went as he wanted.
I could feel his uneasiness in the last few years as the wealth was becoming a liability.
I was shocked at how people close to him reacted the moment he passed away.
They were impatient to get all for themselves and I had a very tough time as I had to get things done quickly but fairly.
Now it is seven years and not a day passes not thinking about him and how things turned out in the end.
In a way like "ears must be burning"; money overrides everything for few especially for the very wealthy - siva

It spoils things a tiny bit when you need to point out a joke but it's one of the features of myLot I guess. My brother-in-law misheard the prayer at the graveside and for many years thought they were saying 'In the name of the Father, the Son and into the hole he goes'.

It is funny if taken in the same spirit as I am taking it. But it might also sound insensitive to many.
