Do you use a straw in your drink when dining out or getting your favorite beverage at a fast food place like 7-Eleven? Or do you skip the straw and rough it? I have become a bit of a germaphobe in my old age and always use a straw on those occasions. It is not like at home where you know where your glass has been. But, I draw the line when ordering a beer. In those instances I will rough it. Using a straw to drink beer from a bottle, glass or can just would not look right? Photo-peewee.com I sure hope the ingredients in the beer kills off any germs it comes in contact with What's you choice straw or no straw?

It depends on the drink. If it has ice, then I do because I don't want to dump ice cubes on myself. If it is coffee, then no.

@dgobucks226 Restaurants in Europe do not even propose straws, they have clean glasses that you use with real forks, knives and spoon and ceramic dishes.

So, you’re asking if I suck, huh? Truth be told, I try to use a straw as much as possible, because my GI doctor said it helps keep reflux down. Cute picture, too!

So, you are admitting you are a "sucker." Me too! Good reasoning on the reflux I suffer from the same condition. I'm a sucker for photos with cats in them

Have you ever used a straw with a drink? Is it just your preference?

I don't use them but am considering it as I currently have raging toothache on both sides and try to avoid drinks touching those bits! My girlfriend uses straws and has recently switched to paper ones as they are more eco-friendly than plastic. I too am germ-phobic.

@dgobucks226 They're becoming a bit more available in the UK but much more expensive than the plastic ones.

Many restaurants are using paper straws now. I remember having to use straws when I had a tooth extracted. Needed to avoid those stitches.

@asfarasiknow Seems to be a hot topic. I recently saw a feature on replacing completely plastic straws with paper and even bamboo?

Whenever I order something to drink, yes, I do use a straw. But, other times I order coffee and have had some cups that aren't very clean:(

Yes, I have that problem with coffee at diners. Actually, I always wonder how hygienic the silverware and glasses really are there???

@dgobucks226 It grosses me out when there's lipstick near the top of a coffee cup.

@dgobucks226 That is cute seeing the cat using a straw. I use a straw when I have a bottle that is wide and I cannot drink out of it so put the plastic straw into and drink.

@dgobucks226 I can imagine that was not much fun. I think cats are amazing too. Maybe I should give my Sophie a straw to see if she would use it to drink her water.

Yeah, I thought that was such a neat picture. Cats are sure amazing! I had to use a straw when I had a tooth extracted to keep it away from the stiches.

@responsiveme I see. Slow and steady will keep the tummy from getting upset regardless of place and company. Hopefully, the place and company are always good, lol.

Another good reason to use a straw. Slows you down to enjoy your drink and company...

I always use a straw when I drink Diet Coke ( it can stain your teeth!) But when I drink sparkling water, sometimes I just skip it. Because we all know sparkling water has no color to it. So it doesn't stain your teeth. And that's about it. So I'll see ya later.
