It all depends on my mental state. If I'm troubled about something I find it impossible to sleep

Dr. kokil agarwal, I think we can all agree on what you've said. Anxiety about the day's events or the next day's events can cause us to lose needed sleep and rest

@amitkokiladitya I'm learning not to think about the next day's events so much, because the next day will have it's own added problems. Often, what I'm anxious about never comes to fruition (Matthew 6:34).

@anamika161088 So very true! It's like when you lie down to rest the aches and pains are worse. Perhaps it's depends on the type of the bedding or mattress. I also, believe that when we are occupied with doing things during the day, we are not to aware of the aches and pains that much. But when we lay upon our beds that's when we really feel pain at night or whenever we lay down to rest.

If a person is in depression, he or she can't sleep like a baby.

Shavkat, sleeping like a baby would be so nice! Chronic depression, deprives you of happiness and most definitely it deprives you of sleep.

So true. That's why I try to do things that will take my mind off my own problems. I try to focus in on helping others if I reasonably can. That way when I lay down to rest and sleep my mind will focus on the positive things of the day's events. Listening to soothing music or natural sounds of nature is a great help. However, my main avenue to peaceful sleep is prayer. I keep in mind the Bible based proohecies and promises that soon one day in mankind's coming history pain and suffering will be a thing of the past, will be no more. No more sleepless nights because our sleep and rest will be sweet, peaceful, and pleasant. (Revelation 21:4-5, Isaiah 33:24).

Yes, Jessa problems and depression often keep us up at night or during the day. Our brain needs to rest in order to alleviate depression to a degree. Unfortunately we will always have challenges, problems and anxieties in this world full of uncertainties.

Yes you're absolutely right ARM! Thank you for bringing that to our attention. Lots of physical activity is definitely an antedote for a good night's rest.

When one's mind is preoccupied with problems and unstoppable thoughts.

@chicnthin what you've said is very true. Sometimes too, we may stay up all night over thinking or we will try to second guess how a situation may turn out and it never ends up the way we thought it would. I have learned over the years that excessive worrying or "unstoppable thoughts" can can wreak havoc on our mental, emotional, spiritual, physical health and deprive us of much needed rest and sleep. It would be a good idea for those who have the problems that you mentioned, to see a specialized doctor in the field of sleep disorders for advice and help with their continous mental thoughts and insomnia.

@chicnthin you are not by yourself. What you've stated is the same thing many of us go through or deal with. I believe we have to individually find out what works for us because only we individually know our own situation or circumstances. I have to get honest with myself @chicnthin to see what I am doing that may be a contributing factor to my lack of sleep? Continuous cell phone usage can be addictive and even when our eyes are tired from prolonged use, we may still continue surfacing the web or social media sites. Remember, you don't always have to check out every response or question I, or others may post. You don't have to respond to them immediately either. That's my rule of thumb. If I have the extra time I will. I realize that we all have big and little obligations and responsibilities in our life. So taking care of the more important things in life will help you to sleep better. Reason being? It's because you will not be worrying about or having regrets that you didn't take care of a matter in a timely fashion.

@itslikethistome I couldn't agree more on what you said. I, myself sometimes are having a hard time to sleep and what I do is I use my phone untill my eyes are tired, which is not healthy as well. I tend to overthink what will happen to my "tomorrow".
