I got quite a lot for little over 12 bucks today at Aldi

Here is what I purchased today for just a little bit over 12 dollars at an ALDI store. 1. medley potatoes, a mix of different colored tiny potatoes 2. pinto beans - dry 3. butter beans - dry 4. and so on and so forth. The point is, you don't have to break the piggy bank to get a few groceries for a little over twelve dollars in America. What this means simply put is ... You don't have to starve if you shop smart. I could easily have bought one very large smoothie or cappuccino at a Starbucks for the same amount of money. I like my coffee and my smoothies but ... I can get by on making those at home. So, yea, while shopping at Aldi I got some coffee creamer too! Generally speaking, anything you buy can be bought on impulse without regard to prices and then you end up getting only some things you might need. If I can get all the things I got with just about 12 dollars, I can do even better with a hundred dollars when I go all out looking for everything on my grocery list. Knowing that the prices of certain cuts of meats and other food items are varied according to the way they are sold, like canned, frozen, fresh or cooked, and what store you shop at, can make the difference between getting what you need or getting only half the things you need to live. Most prices of food are way higher then they were ten years ago. I know about inflation and what once was a dollar now costs about 3 dollars. Yes, the economy is always moving toward higher prices on just about everything. But we can still choose between canned, fresh, cooked, and still look for discounts and look for the things we actually need that have real nutritional value that is better for the money as opposed to impuslively spending it on things that are a bit excessive or elaborate. You can buy a whole chicken for less than it costs for a 3 piece fast food fried chicken combo meal.

I've read a few posts today about fellow myLotters getting some good stuff at Aldi's today. I love Aldi and am happy that we can shop reasonably and still get good quality.

Thanks for that. Yes, more people are finding that you can stretch your hard earned dollars by shopping for things they need without going on impulse and spending too much.

$12 doesn't really do much for everyone when grocery shopping though. as not everyone buys things like that. and meats alone are $5+ but it is possible for some to do that.

No it really doesn't. I can go some days on less than 6 dollars. I can buy a pack of peanuts, an orange juice and a can of tuna with mayo on oatnut bread.

@Courtlynn , 50 dollars would still be within the normal range for one week of groceries for 7 days to feed at least 2 people. I guess.

@lookatdesktop yeah we don't get any of that besides the oj. which is usually $2.50 the cheapest, when on sale. otherwise $4 ish. if we only need a meat for dinner or lunch or milk and bread then its doable to be under $8 but a normal shopping trip is at least $50.

Aldi is one of my favorite places to shop. I try to stop by for fresh produce every couple of weeks.

@lookatdesktop Have you ever had a chance to check out Lidl? They are the main competition for Aldi in Germany and many are opening here in NC.

Cooking at home is becoming a lost art. I know a few things I can cook. For one thing I can cook a mean fried peanutbutter & bacon & nanner sandwich, if I wanna.

Nice to know that you have had enough vegetables for 12 dollars ! If we convert dollar to rupee then the vegetables becomes very costly for us! But then since you feel that they are cheaper , I understand they must be over there! Thanks!

Sometimes special discounts on produce occur when the season for imported fruits and other produce items are being sold at harvest times. Mostly though, America depends on imported items and putting tariffs on steel and aluminum will make prices go way up there in America. It is a calm before a storm I think.

Those are wise choices--you have protein, carbs, vitamins and minerals, everything your body needs. I love Aldi!! Unfortunately, they are not here in Arizona, at least not yet. I hear they are expanding and when and if they come to my city I will be among the first through the doors!

We don't have an Aldi near us but I do a lot of shopping for frozen and can goods at The Dollar Tree--every Thursday I get 6 jars of mushrooms, 6 bags of mixed vegetables and 6 bags of fruit, salsa and various condiments, etc. They also have frozen steaks, fish, etc. I do go to the supermarket for fresh produce! All in all I spend less than $50 a week for food.

That is very economical for you to be able to buy a week supply of groceries for just about 50 dollars.
