It is HOT in California

It has been unusually hot in California for the past few days. In fact, in parts of Orange County, where I live, temperatures have soared to 118 degrees Fahrenheit. Those are the types of temperatures we typically only see in places like Death Valley. It was so hot at 8:00 this morning, that my friends and I decided to walk at a local shopping mall rather than our beloved Laguna Beach. To make matters worse, over 35,000 people in Los Angeles have lost their electrical power, so they cannot run their air conditioners. I hope they all have found cool places to spend the day until their power is restored. As a result of the heat, there are a number of forest and grass fires burning in California, as well as other states. Hundreds of homes have burned down. I have heard that it is equally hot in other parts of the United States. Wherever you live, I hope you are keeping cool.

Wow, those sort of temperatures must be close to unbearable. It's unusually hot in the UK too - 75/80 which is hot for us. We also have fires on some of our moorlands as we haven't had any rain for weeks.

@jaboUK - I'm sorry to hear you are going through something similar in the UK. This global warming thing is pretty ugly, if that's what is causing it! A lot of people who live near the ocean in Southern California do not have air conditioning, so it is particularly miserable for them!

Well, 118°F is about 48°C according to my thermometre. I can't even imagine!

@paigea - Yes, it is miserably hot here. Many people who live near the coast do not have air conditioning, so it must be especially hard on them. I hope it cools off soon!

It has been pretty good here today but the heat is coming back. Weatherman said that it looks like July will be above average mostly.

@wolfgirl569 - Yes, that is the way it looks on the national map. I hope it cools off, soon. If it is this hot in Canada, that has to be especially bad for our polar ice cap!

It's hot up here in the Bay Area. I'm going to visit the pool now.

@TheHorse - Wow! I'm sorry it is hot in the Bay Area, too. Our daughter in Napa said it was raining ash on them a few days ago because of the fires in Lake County. However, the wind has shifted since then and it is not so bad. Stay cool, Pony!

I never heard of temps like that in southern Cal before. Makes you glad that global warming is a hoax,

@DeborahDiane Nor do I. Species are moving north already due to climate change and wineries are adjusting their grape varieties.

@JamesHxstatic - I feel bad for our grandchildren. They are the ones who will really pay the price for global warming, possible future water shortages, the changing landscape, the loss of species, larger hurricanes, and many of the other problems they will have to deal with.

@JamesHxstatic - Yes, it sounds like a hoax, all right. I never remember temperatures like this here, either. In fact, we are setting all kinds of records. I don't like the way the future looks if we don't turn things around.

It peaked at 112 at 1 pm here and now "down" to 104. It's supposed to calm down to our usual 80s by the end of next week. We do have to worry about the rolling blackouts when the heat is on like this.

@JohnRoberts - Oh, my! I had completely forgotten about our rolling blackouts. I always hate it when we feel guilty about running a load of laundry during the day or anything which uses extra electricity.

Fortunately, we got a good rain shower today that cooled it off a lot. I have some friends, and two sons in California.

We've had unusually warm weather most of the week. From last weekend, until about Thursday. It was just so hot! Thankfully, it's cooled down a bit. Hopefully, the temperatures stay more normal.

@DeborahDiane it is definitely a beautiful place. Thankfully it’s cooler now. Normal for this time of year. Fall is gorgeous here. Especially with the leaves changing colours.

@dodo19 - I am sorry to hear it has been hot as far north as Quebec. I visited your beautiful city many years ago, but it was fall and the weather was gorgeous. I hope it calms down for you soon.

@dodo19 - Yes, it was gorgeous when we visited Quebec in the fall. I think it was in the month of September. I fell in love with the area!

Today we have a cloudy day, the temperature is 30 degrees centigrade. The temperature is acceptable, not too hot.

@caopaopao - I hope your temperatures remain comfortable. That would be 86 degrees Fahrenheit, which would be a normal California summer day. Hot, but not unbearable.

I hope you are doing your best to stay hydrated and out of that heat as much as you can, DD! (I don't like the thought of anything happening to you out there! ) You know... I bet your girlfriends would get an even better work out if you could get them to carry you instead of you doing all that strenuous walking!

@DeborahDiane Hmmm... you might try suggesting it to the other ladies on a rotational basis... and then forgetting it is your turn to help carry them. After all, if they are that much older than you, they might actually forget you've already had your turn at being carried around! You aren't the first group of ladies who take any 'excuse' to go to the mall and 'exercise' !

@DaddyEvil - ha ha! You caught us! I agree that we are not the first group of women to find an excuse to exercise at the mall. We get a good "workout" there! LOL

@DaddyEvil - Since I'm the "youngster" in my walking group, I don't think that's going to happen! We went walking in a mall yesterday. Cooler temperatures, excellent Starbucks, and lots of shops where we could do a little window shopping! LOL

@rakski - Something happened because of the high demand, and it basically caused some of the electrical transformers to break down. It must have been horrible for those people!

118F is a bit tooo uncomfortable! Hope there are no horrible gusty winds accompanying the heatwave (more fire danger when there are that sort of winds around). Take care.
