Cats eat the strangest things.

I've been keeping a watch on my kitty's diet lately. She eats her own food and mine too. She also loves to Chase, trap and eat insects. Tonight I watched as she stalked, trapped and devoured a moth that got into the apartment. She put it into her mouth while it was still alive and she did a little dance while it fluttered around in her mouth. She dropped it, swatted at it a few more times then watched it die before gobbling it up. I watched all of this horror! She has done this with ants, june bugs, flies and anything else that finds its way in from the balcony. Do your pets eat the things they stalk and kill?

My cat used to be a big moth chaser and eater..now that he is technically a senior citizen..he is basically content to watch them fly around..he might do some mild chasing, but I haven't seen him devour one for awhile.

Poor kitty. He misses all the fun he had in his younger lives.

@Starmaiden He could still do it if he wanted to, he is in excellent condition..he just says why bother? He is kind of like a middle aged person who has lost their desire to do what they did in their youth.

I think birds are probably a healthier choice. My cat has never eaten "squab".

I was thinking that same thing too. With her around I'm safe from creepy crawlies.

I had a tom many years before who would catch mice, birds and everything else. He would bring them to me and drop them at my feet as if he was expecting me to cook it for supper.

Oh yes! I'd see her chasing bugs, flies, worms, birds and lizards. Poor lizards she has killed many already. Then after playing I'd see her chewing. She also gnaws on some plants. Would you believe she chews on my little poor cactus... My kitty eats homemade foods and the usual cat food both dry and wet. She is not picky. She eats fish with rice or boiled squash mixed with fish or other meats. She eats eggs and veggies too. She eats almost anything I give her. Her mother on the other hand is quite picky, doesn't like to eat meat or fish mixed with something else. She eats just plain fish, plain chicken meat, plain beef/meat.

@Starmaiden hahaha When I see my cat, laying contentedly without a care in the world, I'd sometimes say, "I wanna be like you!" and I'm amazed how they find everything little thing interesting or make a toy out of anything.

I fed my kitty a chicken nugget and she batted it around the floor like a toy.

Cats seem to have a cruel streak, don't they?

It's their natural hunting instincts. I'm more concerned about her choices of meal selection. Insects carry many diseases.

My cat is too lazy to hunt bugs. He will sometimes lazily swat at one that gets inside, but I have never seen him eat one. Which I find odd for a cat, since every cat I've ever had liked to hunt and devour bugs! I guess he is too good for nasty ol' insects. My sister's dog likes to eat flies, though. It's funny (and gross) watching her snap at them in midair and then spitting them out before she gobbles them back up again. That dog also keeps trying to eat toads every summer, even though they make her foam at the mouth.

My dog that I had many years ago was always getting himself in trouble with the neighboring porcupines.

Flying num nums. Our rescued Fred kitten is starting to practice good stalking techniques. Any day now he will capture a fly and be delighted with his prowess.

That's what cats do. They love to toy then crunch.

@Starmaiden Cats do like to eat strange things. My cat loves flies. She teases them and cannot remember if she kills them and eats them too.
