India
July 9, 2018 2:56am CST
Good afternoon friends... Yesterday night I made a post here about the most discussed topic on mylot then I went to sleep. Today in the morning when I checked in to mylot, I found 22 responses on it which is first time for me to get so many responses in just 12-14 hours. Then I checked the hot discussions and I found my discussion there too... First time I spotted my discussion in this list.. What makes a discussion HOT?? For mine, surely weather played it role... Thank you all for making the discussion HoT..

What makes a "Hot Discussion"? The official description is that it is ordered by the number of responses a post has had (most at the top), then by the date it was created on - (with the most recent first). It mainly only includes posts from the last 24 hours. Since, by definition, all discussions which have received responses in the last 24 hours appear in this list, it's really no big deal to find your discussion in the list somewhere, though it may be quite a way down the page!

@akalinus I don't know the answer to that. The official description is a simplified version of one I had from the site owner (who, presumably, wrote the selection algorithm). I don't access that page very often, but as the definition specifies '24 hours', I can understand that some discussions may appear there two days running (depending on the actual time they were posted).

I wrote a discussion that is still getting people commenting on it and it was only hot for a few hours. Other discussions sit at the top of the list for days. Why does this happen?

congratulations. it is really expected that a discussion with many likes and comments land in the top rated discussions. as what joliet jake said, every discussion begins the the most bottom of the top rated until either it goes up or gets removed from the list if there are no likes and comments.

@anamika161088 well all discussions are important, and every discussion stays for only 24 hours in that top-rated column.

@anamika151088 Congratulations!! Perhaps it is the number of likes that make a discussion hot.

@anamika161088 May be.But,as I'm told,it is the number of likes only, and not responses, that determines which category the discussion falls in.

@brokekid0212 I made 3-4 discussions along with approx 150+ comments which broke my own record of $ .4. It's all about response we get. The more I respond to others post and interact with them, the more fellows come to respond on my posts. Earlier I was also making less but with time and being active continuously helps. Make friends and interact. I hope it will help

Congrats dear friend. This discussion I found in the top page of interesting discussions. What makes a discussion hot is defenitly the quality of the post. How much good the discussion title catches the attention of others. The traffic rate to the discussion page makes it HOT. Expecting more interesting & hot topics from you like this post. happy Mylotting.

A discussion becomes "hot" when many people "like" the discussion.

i thought the "hot" discussion was based on the responses, while the top-rated was based on the likes.

We all have different assumptions but actually it's computer algorithms based on some priorities..

Every discussion will go into the hot list as long as it gets one response...it's just it may be pages and pages down the list
