Looking forward to Montana

In about four weeks, I will be free to hit the road. A part of my plan is to visit the family cabin in Montana, check the roof, check the bridge, and check the fence. You know I like "projects," and one of my projects up there is always to make sure the bridge across my creek is strong. I've built and re-built that bridge since the 1980s. Because I like quiet, and I like "pretending it's the old days," I don't use a chain saw when I fell sick or crowed Douglas Fir trees for my bridge. I use an old hand saw that's been in the family for generations. I'll attach a picture of one of my "work stations." If I get some comments, I'll attach pictures of my bridge, the fence, my cabin, etc. I'm feeling sentimental right now.

Montana is probably the least populated state meaning lots of space and quiet.

There are approximately one million people in the whole state.

@TheHorse A lot of wide open spaces. Most people are at Helena, Great Falls, Missoula.

*grinning at you* Why do you say "If I get some comments... " on some of your discussions, pony? We, and everyone else on myLot, know you will get 'some' comments, no matter what you write about. You seem to be up awfully late for you tonight. Is everything okay at chez pony? And just because you like to 'pretend' you are living in the 1800s doesn't mean you shouldn't upgrade that flip phone into a phone with a good camera! *shake my head* @topffer @Jlyn10 You two might like to see pony's 'family home' and environs in Montana, too. It's very pretty there!

It looks nice. Visiting USA is in my projects, but it is postponed until the end of the Trump's episode. But maybe they never heard about Trump around his family cabin in Montana, like in some remote areas of Russia they still think that there is still a czar ruling.

Hopefully it's in good shape & you won't have to do a whole lot of patch up work. I hope nobody uses your cabin when you are not there.

As long as they're careful with fire, and respectful of the mice who watch over the place for me, I probably wouldn't care that much.

Building consist of generating bridges. I'm in tuned with the building and there's where my concentration is.

Do you engineer "real" bridges? Mine are just log things that span my creek.

Montana sounds a very rural area so at the log cabin you will get lots of peace and quiet. You can use your hand saw to make a bridge to the log cabin with the fir trees. I am so happy that you have just another month before you go to there.

Yeppers, that's the plan. It's always a tad bittersweet, as many of the "old-timers," the people we looked up to as kids, are dying off.

That's awesome you have a family place like that to go to, away from "here"! I love the projects you work on (wish I could do the same for here) . . . ah, I can only dream !

You are right to avoid noise, it seems to offend nature with our noisy mechanical stuff. I would love to see more photos.

@TheHorse Hmmm... how did you make your fence, pony? (Just curious.) Most 'old time' fences I've seen were notched logs placed so the notching held the fence together.
