Time for another countdown, and a confession of sorts. This time around I'm going to look at ten albums that are considered "classics" in rock and roll and humongous sellers, to the point where you think "everybody" has it. No, not everybody! I never owned any of these "classic" albums. Here's the first one.
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
And why? Well, I'm not much of a Pink Floyd fan. I didn't trip over things getting to the radio to turn it off when they came on (the way I did with Journey), but it's just not my cup of tea. Worse, my favorite Pink Floyd song isn't one of their "big hits" that get played to death on classic rock stations. It's "Pigs (Three Different Ones)" from Animals.
But this album is probably one of the classics of the old "FM underground rock" days. The songs run into one another without a "gap."
And there's their salute to Pink Floyd co-founder, Syd Barrett, in "Brain Damage." Barrett had issues, and in those days there wasn't a concise way to address things such as we have now. The album's title comes from "Brain Damage:" "And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes, I'll see you on the dark side of the moon."
Not that it's a bad album or whatever, it just that it never piqued my interest enough to buy it.
Or, you can thank "classic rock" radio for playing "Money" 600 times a day.

The closing songs, "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse" (as I'm thinking you might be sick of hearing "Money," too!):
