Here's Why People Don't Trust the News

This may not be as big a story in other parts of the county as it is here, but this is headline news all over the place in Louisville. "Papa John" founder John Schnatter used a racial slur. News of this broke yesterday, and in the past day he's resigned as chairman of the board of the pizza company he founded, resigned from the University of Louisville Board of Directors, and had his name removed from buildings. Now, here's why people tend to not trust the news. First, this is July 12. This comment was made in a conference call in May. Why is this just coming to light now? Slow news day?! Secondly, the context hasn't been reported: Schnatter was quoting Colonel Sanders from the 1960s, saying that he never faced backlash for saying the "N word." (Except, Schnatter said the "N word" instead of using the euphamism.) Should he have said it, even in quoting someone else? No. But should it be a "big news item" two months after the fact without the complete context reported? Please. In context:

Honestly, if I am an Indian, and our race is known as Indian, wouldn't that be a slur if an African is not allowed to be referred to as that? If it ends with r it is wrong. If it ends with O ..I would be confused. Because definition of race is almost accepted ..Caucasian ..should they feel bad? or Mongoloid...or Indian...sigh...it is just a coincidence that Indian coincides with Indian subcontinent. A rose would still be a rose...were it called by another name. Some issues are not worth being sensitive about. As to news not being trustworthy...sigh. I agree...

Did he have a target on his back for the sin of being conservative?

Of course not! Just ask Bill Maher, who was fired after his use of the N-word.

The liberal mainstream news is disgusting. I don't trust it one bit.

It's a tactic the media uses to distract us from actual news we should be concerned about. And I'm a firm believer that if a word is okay for one group of people to use, then everyone should be allowed to use it. Do I think people should go around calling people the N-word? Absolutely not. But banning all white people from using it all together, even when quoting someone from the past, is ridiculous.

@FourWalls He said it in poor taste and should apologize for saying it. The apology may get accepted or may not. Lots of the media make of stuff so they have news to report. They are in a hurry to make their deadline that they do not get the facts or the truth right.

I saw that he had resigned his post on Twitter for using that word but, nope, not the context. Still, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving jerk, IMO.
