A hot mini-vacation at the beach

Monday, my husband and I with my friend who's here from Mass went to Nags Head on the coast of NC for three days.
We stayed at a friend's beach cottage right on the ocean and it was hot, but wonderful.
Ate some yummy seafood (shrimp, scallops, flounder, catfish, hushpuppies, fries, cole slaw, crab cakes, and sweet tea, of course!)
I tried something I've never heard of before: pimento cheese grit cake with pepper jack cheese sauce.
It's definitely an acquired taste. Probably wouldn't order it again, but glad I tried it.
At one restaurant, we had a window seat with a view of an Osprey's nest and a couple of babies! They return to that nest every summer. The parent Ospreys are named Lucy and Ricky (after the I Love Lucy TV show.)
We spent one day touring the Wright Brothers Memorial. On December 17, 1903, at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, the Wright Flyer became the first powered, heavier-than-air machine to achieve controlled, sustained flight (from a brochure.)
We also toured the Bodie Lighthouse which was really cool.
Of course, my friend and I did a little shopping while my husband relaxed at the cottage. I didn't do as much as I would have liked...taking meds for a kidney infection and possible stone. Uggg.
Anyway, it was a great, short vacation at the coast. Had one last seafood lunch at Frog Island Seafood, a very casual place near Elizabeth City. The back half of the building is actually a fishery where they clean and process fish. In the cafe you can also buy fresh fish to cook at home. Gave the place that delightful fish aroma, but the catfish was delish!

You are welcome. It is nice to get away even if it is for a little bit of time.

We enjoyed it, except for my kidney infection. But God is healing me.

It really was awesome. The babies were trying to fly and the parents were encouraging them.

That sounds wonderful. Over 20 years ago, my family joined other family members at Kill Devil Hills which is right next to Nags Head. That was a fun time.

I bet Nags Head has grown a lot in 20 years. Even Kill Devil Hills has developed with beach cottages and stores.

What a wonderful photo. Sounds like you really had a great time. I just love seafood. I will have to hunt up some here in Daytona Beach so far all I have run into is fast food.
