Just Call him "The Biscuit Man"

Roomie is Southern born and bred, and whenever he makes a meal it seems to include biscuits. In the U.S. biscuits are not cookies, but are like a little flour dough thing, like they have at KFC. Anyway, he leaves them out after he is done eating, and I always end up asking him if I can have one. Biscuits are kind of hard to resist. Do you ever eat them?

Oh yes. Biscuits are a staple down here in the South. I don't eat them that often because I know they aren't exactly thte best for you, but I do love them. Especially with sausage gravy over them or honey smothered in the middle.

Right, well we live in the South, but I am originally from the North. He is a Richmond native though. He usually makes his plain..but I am sure he would eat them lots of different ways if he could.

The term 'biscuits' always confused me when reading about biscuits in the US and having them with gravy! I think it wasn't until coming on Bubblews and myLot that I learnt what they were. I think they are more similar to what we call a 'scone'.

similar, but scones usually have an element of sweetness that most biscuits do not. You can get dessert biscuits or breakfast biscuits though that are kind of a sweet bread to further confuse the issue.

@JudyEv It is correct Judy, biscuits are similar to scones, but scones are a bit higher in fats than biscuits.

@snowy22315 We can have savoury or sweet scones or just plain scones which are just flour, fat of some kind and milk. I have a cheese scone recipe that I like to use and for sweet scones I just add a little sugar.

I'm not crazy about biscuits, in fact I can't remember the last time I ate one. Yeah though, southern men love them biscuits, I remember one dish mom picked up from an ex of mine and that was to make chocolate gravy to pour over them. Not bad for breakfast but gimme sausage n eggs first

Yeah, mom's would definitely be fattening @snowy22315 Of course you could probably use dark chocolate cocoa verses the milk chocolate she used.

@LadyDuck True that, different strokes for different folks Some of it though, is probably what you are used to. People tend to like their own cuisine the best I think.

Popeye's Chicken used to have very good biscuits, but they aren't quite as good as they used to be.

Being from the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic, they aren't something that we typically have with our meals. At least not the homemade kind--if people have them, they buy the Pillsbury ones from the can at the grocery store now and then, though they'd just as soon get the croissants and serve them for dinner. I made them from scratch very occasionally as we don't eat much bread around here these days. I actually just found a recipe for "Black Pepper Biscuits" in my Bobby Flay Bar Americain Cookbook that I want to make this week.

What exactly are his ‘biscuits’? Maybe it’s different from the biscuits I know of.

He occassionally makes them from scratch and sometimes out of a can. They are pieces of dough that are baked in an oven. I am sure you have KFC there. The biscuits I mean, are like the ones they sell at KFC.
