Hello everyone I hope you have not fallen, tripped or had buckets of water falling on your heads. Yes it is Friday the 13th. To be honest I am not really superstitious although I know many people are. So where does the worry of Friday 13th come from. It stems from around the middle ages. People thought that it was unlucky as thre were 13 people present the night before Christ died. There has been various studies over the years including one in Holland where insurers found that RTA reduced by 300 on the 13th compared to previous days or those that followed the 13th. This is probably due to the fact that people either stay home or they pay more attention to what they are doing. This explanation is a bit of a tongue twister...... paraskevidekatriaphobia is the fear of Friday 13th. It is estimated that around 17 - 21 million people in the USA alone are afraid of this day. Avoiding travelling, flying or even taking the day off work to avoid and reduce the chance of some catastrophe taking place. I must admit that the drive to work and home again this evening was much nicer there appeared to be less traffic on the road. Coincidence or not I don't know but I am grateful. Many years ago when I first started courting my wife. I took her to the cinema to see Friday 13th. I told her it was a love story.........OK OK I was a bit economical with the truth but there was an element of love in it if you looked hard enough. After the first murder she sat through the rest of the film with her coat hood covering her head. She was not amused at all! Oh well.........no sense of humour some people eh! Are you afraid of Friday the 13th? Do you stay in bed to avoid it? I hope you have all had a safe day and it all ends well.

Ok, thanks @garymarsh6 we just call them Traffic Accidents but I have never seen it abbreviated. I wonder if the statistics would be the same over here.

I stayed home because of tropical heat. However, this day is lucky for me having been born on a Friday and having the number 13 as a lucky birth number.

@garymarsh6 the heat don't shock me as much as the prices. My Lord, I used to pay around a buck fifty for things like a dozen eggs now they got them close three bucks and many other favorites too. I think until I really settle in I am going to stick to eating pasta. One box can take me a long way. SIGH Oh yes, and I still haven't checked out the boardwalk but already read that people were injured back in June when a roller coaster car derailed. Home ain't what it used to be. I think I might soon head back to my hometown NYC and sing a troubadour song on the sidewalk

I don't care about Friday the 13th,though some think of it as a taboo here.I don't think that Friday the 13th is totally different from the other days, which reminds me of the idiom here :mistaking the reflection of a bow in the cup for a snake.

@garymarsh6 Thank you ! It means that people scare themselves with what is in their minds rather than what is real.

The number 13 is a lucky number in Italy, so we have not at all the fear of Friday 13th.

@garymarsh6 This is a pretty common Italian key-chain with the "lucky symbols".

@LadyDuck A tooth, four leaf clover and the number 13 all lucky charms! What about the 17th. I read the 13th was an Americanisation!
