Someone hit my car

I'm kind of upset at the moment as when I came out to my car a couple of days ago I found someone had hit it and driven off while it was parked. Unfortunately I cannot park outside my house and I do not have a drive so it is parked in the cul de sac a short way from where I live and lots of cars turn round in that area.. I've only had the car a few months. One of my neighbours says he may be able to get hold of a magnetic device which could pull it out as although the dent is quite big the paintwork hasn't really been damaged. Wish me luck!

@nela13 No I don't like to pressure the guy but I might ring my garage and see if they can do something,

I missed this comment. He never fixed it but I have accepted that this is the way it is now.

@LadyDuck People are so careless. I know accidents happen but some just don't pay attention.

Good luck! Someone smacked into the back wheel and wheel arch of my car when it was parked in a supermarket car park last year, while I was shopping. The bang was loud enough to attract the attention of several in the vicinity, but nobody had the presence of mind to scribble the car registration down, and the surveillance cameras did not reveal who the perpetrator was. The ominous clunking from the rear of the car after that would have cost more than the car was worth to repair. The police were sympathetic, but also could not find the white car, that had left its fog light glass broken next to my car... Some people are just a**holes.

They really are! I'm getting over it a bit now but I would like to get it fixed. I take it you had to scrap your car.

@pgntwo I tend to buy older cars but I always get someone to come with me to look it over. My old bangers have sometimes been less trouble than my newer cars.

@sprite1950 I kept it for a while, and the garage I bought my next used car from took it off my hands for a paltry sum. I did see it on the road a couple of months later, but not seen it around in the last 6 months... Maybe the guy who bought it off the dealer found it not economical to repair.

Oh man, what a bummer. I hope he can get the dent out. Especially being a new car for you. Ugh. Talk about magnets. New cars are magnets for idiot drivers.

@porwest I bought a sticker in the end and covered it that way. My partner said it draws attention to it

I saw the neighbour this morning but he didn't mention it and those magnetic devices cost a lot. It seems a lot of money to pay for something that might never happen again (hopefully).

It's a mean thing to do to hit a car and then drive off without saying anything.

Oh no, sorry to hear your car was hit! I hope your neighbor will be able to get a hold of the device to pull out the dent. If you can get your hands on one, they are great for popping out dents in cars.

I've seen him but he hasn't mentioned it and they are expensive to buy. I wonder if my garage has a tool like that. I might ring them and find out.

It is. I may not have noticed it right away because I normally just get in the car and drive it and it was over the back wheel arch so I'm not sure how long it was there,

Well I suppose it could have been worse. At least it is still drivable but it was in good condition and didn't have any dents before this one.

I might be able to make it less noticeable if my neighbour can get hold of a magnetic plunger.
