Getting Out of Your Own Head

My dad always told me the best way to get over feeling sorry for yourself, or to quit thinking about all of your troubles is to do something for someone else. He has always been good at doing that. How good are you at that? I'm trying to do better.

I spend a lot of time in my head. It's nice and comfy there. But I do do things for others, if possible.

If I did someone bad, I do good for others. I feel guilty sometimes and as much as possible, I don't care anymore.

It is an antidote to depression, if you can find a good deed to do.

I work on solving my troubles, and finding out the reason and understanding whatever emotional distress I'm going through. After that then I go help or interact with others.

@AmbiePam Yep, one quote that's stuck in my head. Is you have to help yourself before you can help someone else. But over the years I've revamped since it fits me. You have to help, heal, and relieve yourself before turning to help those around you. Help yourself by taking it easy. Heal through releasing emotions in a non harmful manner. Relieve yourself of too many things, take it one thing at a time. Then after all is said and done you can look at those around you. Take a step back from the picture and see how you can help them from every perspective.

He is right. I try not to dwell on my troubles, sometimes it isn't easy. Right now I am dwelling, but I am going to think about this post and see if that will allow me to just let go and maybe healing will start and change the way that I feel, and that in turn will allow me to be more like myself again. Perfect timing for me to read such a post and be reminded.

I did so many times, but I have no more the strength to endure ingratitude.

Your dad is wise. I always put others first, even if they don't necessarily consider me at all.

I try to do things for other people as much as I can, Donating for charity or vegan groups is also something I like to do sometimes.

I have heard that said before as well. I try to do good by others and help then when I can. I think we could all do better at it, no matter what.

It always seems easier to deal with other people's problems than our own.

@AmbiePam Your dad had a good point. I have trouble feeling good to help someone else if I have a bad problem that has to be dealt with and do not know how to handle it.
