I have yet to understand who and when this custom of smearing the birthday cake was introduced. Every birthday I have witnessed mostly on tv and or in films I see birthday celebration have this custom.
Not only is it waste of money, those who get smeared, I doubt if they are happy not to speak of the mess that is created around.
What do you think?

We do not do this here thankfully. I think it is moronic!

Were you not concerned when the cakes were wasted?

I am also equally wondering like you about this new face smearing with cake event as a part of Birth Day celebrations! Yes, no body would like to be smeared with Cake and as you have mentioned the cake simply goes wasted after that! I strictly discourage this act!

Have you seen any one doing it in your family or friend's circle?

It was our christmas party in school when we did that. One of my classmates started getting some icing and we did the same thing. It was fun and we clean the mess right after.

I can't do it, not when I see a lot of starving kids everytime I go out just in the perimeter fence of our subdivision where there is an informal settler colony
