Maggie Strikes Again.

Now in this book I have been telling you guys about, there is a character by the name of Maggie. She is a bit of a hypochondriac, a little eccentric and is considered the town spinster. Dr. O'Reilly handles her in a delicate manner. At one time he "prescribed" vitamins to rid her of an incessant headache she claims forms "two inches above her cranium." The woman is really harmless. As most might assume by her being a spinster, she also owns a cat. Dr. O'Reilly happens to be a fan of the feline persuasion and has fostered a cat of his own. On this occasion he and the Dr. Taylor (who narrates these stories) are coming back from a house call when they decide to stop in on Maggie. Dr. O'Reilly needs her advice on the problem of his cat scratching the furniture. Maggie sets them down to tea and they soon get on with the conversation. Dr. O'Reilly begs her for advice on how to get his cat to stop scratching. Meanwhile, The General, Maggie's own cat has sat peacefully at the foot of the couch they are occupying. Maggie exits the room blabbering on about something that would "do just the trick." She comes out with a scratching post and her cat decides it's about time he scrams under the end table. Dr. Taylor observes this with some bemusement. Dr. O'Reilly exclaims "Oh well that would do just the trick! So the cat will take up scratching it and not my furniture?" Maggie looks puzzled for a moment before she explains that she uses it to beat the cat when he tries to scratch the furniture. Well that explains why her cat hid when the post came out. Poor Maggie, she had no idea what it was really supposed to be used for.
Long before Dr. Fingal Flahertie O’Reilly made most readers’ acquaintance in Patrick Taylor’s bestselling novel An Irish Country Doctor, ...

Sounds like a fun book. I need to look for the author at the library. I’m reading an Anne Perry book featuring Monk.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I think we're talking about a different Monk. Anne Perry's Monk is with The River Police in the 1800s. I watch the other Monk on TV too. He's the autistic detective. His old shows are still on.

@bunnybon7 I have seen them all as well though it's been years since I've watched it. I live with someone who is somewhat of a meathead but I know another person who is more so.

So many good stories in this book. Maggie thought she was pregnant once. She's an older woman, way past her prime. The doctor had a clever way to rid her of that thought.

@rakski Well the doctor was walking down the street when they came across her. She was running towards him to get some advice from him and she wasn't watching where she was going. She ended up colliding with a cyclist. Her groceries fell and smashed all over the place. It was a bottle of ketchup and some eggs. She was rather distraught and the doctor realized that the poor woman thought it was the baby. He told her that he was sorry but it was probably for the best because the child's eyes were too close to it's nose. I guess she wasn't distraught after that. It seems rather silly and kind of.. I guess mean for the doctor to let her believe it was her child. Of course she really wasn't pregnant at all and she seemed to calm down after the doctor said the child's quality of life would have been bad.

Yes and since no actual cats were harmed, it's really quite amusing.

I have no cat. I know that cats are tricky like that. I used to have cats. I have a friend who has two cats, and they have a scratching post but in the middle of the night, you can sometimes hear them scratching the furniture.

@ScribbledAdNauseum My cat loves her scratching post but she also likes to claim other things as her terroitory. I put down a new one for her yesterday for her birthday today and she is so excited about it.

It won't be long before I am halfway through the book. This book is actually based off of another. I believe these stories preceded the book though.

All of these stories are fictional but I don't doubt that someone has mistook the use of something.
