Tourist visas

I think that tourist visas add costs to a trip. I managed to visit Russia without having a visa by going on a ferry from Helsinki. St Petersburg was a very beautiful city for us. For our last trip it was challenging to get an e visa for India. I liked getting the e visas for Sri Lanka because my children got theirs free. I found it cheap and easy to get the visas for Turkey. What do you think of tourist visas?

I believe that the cost is different according which passport you have. I know that tourist visa for India for my Italian passport is € 10.00.

You are right that it depends which passport that you have. It sounds more affordable for a Swiss passport holder to visit India.

It is great that you kept your Italian passport. Yes, it is better than a Swiss passport.

@maximax8 I am not Swiss, I live here, but I have an Italian passport. It is considered even a bit better than Swiss passport to travel.

They are discouraging sometimes : I dreamed to take the Trans Siberian from Moscow to Vladivostok, but it is difficult to justify of the payment of an hotel when you are in a train. From France we do not need a visa to Turkey for up to 90 days.

I am pleased you can visit Turkey without needing a visa for up to 90 days with a French passport. A Russian visa is very expensive. I went to St Petersburg without needing a visa. I wish I could see more of Russia. Imagine taking a train from Moscow to Beijing. I would need visas for Russia, Mongolia and China.

@topffer It is interesting football supporters didn't need a visa to visit Russia. It is possible to use an ordinary Russian train then the one that goes to Ulan Bator and Beijing. While in Ukraine and Moldova we tried out overnight third class sleeping bunks.

@maximax8 Yes, it is expensive and you need to justify to have paid for hotels, which is not compatible with sleeping a week (or more for Beijing) in a train. I should have been i Russia during the world cup of football, there was no visa required for football supporters.

A e visa is cheaper than getting the usual visa. I am so pleased how ever difficult I managed to get the visas on-line. The e visa for India was around £85. I get annoyed with high visa costs.

@maximax8 Yes I am going in January so more hassle when you consider how much we are going to spend there. Ridiculous price of their visa.

The UK demands a high visa cost for Indonesian passport holders which is wrong. The flight cost from Jakarta to London would also cost a lot.

Thanks for the tip on how to visit Russia I've yet to travel outside the US so I thought you only needed lot of money and a passport. When I was little I remember being told you have to call the other countries government and tell them you are going to visit them. I can imagine calling up Putin and being like, "Hey, Putin. I'm coming to your country"

I can take a visa waiver to visit the USA. I understand the Chinese would need a visa to visit the USA.

Things always seem to cost more than they should. If things were a bit less, we'd all travel more!

I totally agree. In 1990 travel costs were low and I could afford to travel all around Europe. I find that there is not much difference in price between a parent and a child.

We went on a Baltic cruise last year and weren't allowed off the ship in St Petersburg on our own. The ship had to book a tour for us and it was very expensive, but worth it.

I really liked hearing about your Baltic Cruise. I did it with a lower budget. Yes, St Petersburg is worth an expensive price.

There are really some places with visas, but there are some without. That is true, visa add cost and time to the travel.

With my British Passport I am able to visit all countries in Europe without a visa except for Russia, Belarus and Turkey. I would like to visit Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The last one I mentioned there needs a visa.
