Would you lend yours?

An acquaintance of mine was somewhat miffed when I told her I could not lend her my laptop. To me , my laptop is my personal property and I would lend it only to a close family member - if the need ever arose. Are you the only person using your laptop or do you share or lend it to others? . Is there any real danger in lending out one's laptop?

My son is the closest family member to me right now - and I would lend him if he needed one to borrow, which is highly unlikely.

i'm surprised when people assume it's no big deal and you'll just hand it over. if they don't mind lending theirs, don't assume everyone does.

I could never be bold enough to do that. If I needed to use the internet, I would visit an internet cafe.

@Kandae11 it would never occur to me to ask, either. like you, i could go to a rental place while having my computer fixed. but then i've also heard of people asking neighbors to "share" their internet!

@hereandthere Yes, that happened in a small apartment complex where I lived at one time. Two other tenants were getting service from a lady doctor's feed. Her apartment was between theirs. She discontinued and decided to use a more personal plan.

I am only person using my Lap Top! In some cases of emergency I allow my son to use it to undertake some typing or scanning of documents or checking his mail! That's all! I would never allow any one else to use my Laptop! Thanks!

@Kandae11, I also do the same. I permit him to use as he stays away from us and when he visits us he normally don't carry his lap top. But if there is any emergency he is allowed to use my laptop!

I don't have a laptop, I have a desktop. But I do have an iPad. And no, I never lend to to anyone. You're right, that is your property. No one should have access to it. Don't feel bad either.

@Kandae11 Good for you. I am glad to hear that. Look, we spend a lot of money on our computers. We do not need someone else to break them on us.

I wouldnt lend mine if I had one. You don't know what type of crap they may be downloading and what viruses may incur. Even a trusted friend shouldnt be trusted with your personal information.

No, I would never lend my laptop to any acquaintance or even a close friend. My husband and I share our laptops, computers and phones with each other. We're very close and we have no problems sharing. I would send my miffed acquaintance to the local library. They may still have a computer room.

My husband uses my laptop sometimes. I would let my mother or my brother use it, but not other people. In the past I let my neighbor use my computer sometimes. We were very close friends and we shared clothes, food, cds and other things. Today I would say no. I would be afraid that the person would download something I didn't want or get a virus.

One has to be so careful , who knows what they might download? In fact one can be in big trouble if certain images are found on one's laptop or phone.

I am the only one to use my laptop. I have personal photos stored and personal documents, I would only let my husband use if... and I would not like to give him, fearing he could delete something by mistake.

@LadyDuck One responder said it shouldn't be a problem if one has nothing to hide! Of course I have something to hide - who would want their personal information and photos perused and probably stolen by someone who was given access to their laptop.

That is quite true - you might not get it back in the same condition in which it was lent. That acquaintance of mine could very easily go to an internet cafe if she is desperate.

I feel the same way. No one else uses it except me, but years ago, a teacher I worked with told someone, whom I didn't know and was on bedrest with her first pregnancy, that I had a brand new one. That person called me and wanted to borrow it for the rest of her pregnancy!!!! Guess what I said? Geez!

We have some close friends that have no problem doing this. I needed a laptop for two weeks and one of them gave me her personal laptop the next day. There are dangers when lending a laptop or your car, but it's all up to you. You could explain to her that you just don't do that, nothing personal, just something that you stick to. Even if she's upset, she should understand that .

First of all - I use my laptop every day.Because of poor internet service I decided I would do without the internet until the service improved - I lasted only 20 days. I cannot do without the internet and my laptop.

@Kandae11 not many people can . As I said, your friend should understand you, after all, she can ask someone else for a laptop. By the way, it seems to me that we are close to become cyborgs . Homini (the right word is a bad word??? ) Sapiens Smartphonus . I can't stay away from my phone for more than a few hours .
