Ahhh, our gourmet pets!

Petey, the spoiled brat
United States

Since I only have the one cat now I try to spoil him with cream warmed in the microwave for exactly ten seconds. He has his own table cloth (a portion of a bath towel that Bill provided for him) and breakfast in the house every morning. Each morning is the same. Petey will wait in front of the microwave for his bowl of cream, follow me over to the washer and dryer where his dining table is set with his breakfast and now his cream and he is left to eat (after some cuddling). Every morning it's the same story, he eats part of his breakfast, drinks his cream and heads for the gourmet shop... the bathroom!!!! He sits on the floor and surveys the room and finally jumps up on the toilet and has a nice long drink (I make sure that the toilet has been flushed first). He hops down, burps and proceeds to the dining room to sit with Bill. After he's done having his "wine" from the wine cooler, I shut the lid. He only does that in the morning when the water is nice and cold. If we let him in in the afternoon he breezes by like it's just the bathroom. Go figure! Other than his breakfast "wine" choice, he's a pretty great cat. He's always at the door in the morning and he always goes to Bill after he eats and drinks. Usually it's Bill that gets to let Petey back out. Does your cat (or dog) have choice places to eat or drink? Or am I stuck with the only gourmet "winer"...by the way I've provided water by his breakfast but he WON'T touch it!

I would love to win the lottery big and be able to have a bunch of cats again! I lost all of mine but one last October and it still hurts like crazy! That's why I bore people with tales of Petey. It's missing the other 8. I still lose it and cry like a 3 year old when I think of the poor babies.

I have no cats, but I spoil the cat of our neighbor. He comes to have breakfast in the morning and around 6 PM to have something to eat before his official dinner. He loves to stay under our porch, on the doormat outside our French Window. He refuses to drink for the bowl, he goes to drink the horrible water in our pond.

Hey, that horrible water has extra flavoring that you would pay dearly for in France! I was telling John Roberts about Fat Cat and the trip home...well my Mom fell in love with her and had our patio screened just for the cat. In the patio there was, of all things, a fish pond. Where did my little sweetheart love to drink? You got it, the fish pond! I fixed my bedroom window so she could get in and out the window to the patio. It worked beautifully.

One of the things I love giving Petey (and he adores them too) is Temptations by Friskies. I usually take a few along for him on our ride but have been forgetting them lately. I spotted a couple of bags of them in the cupboard so Petey is in for a surprise today! I don't know if you can get them where you are but I guess what they do is add some extra flavoring and there is a soft middle in them so the cats go just nuts over them. I can mix them in with Petey's morning dry food and he will carefully pick each one out and eat it. That's determination!

@BearArtistLady I took a photo yesterday evening, it was already becoming dark, Willy the cat was there, near the pond resting after he had his lunch and his drink.

You're not worried about kitty ingesting cleaning chemicals?

We live in the country and have a septic tank so we, sadly, don't clean as often as our friends in town. Plus it costs a small fortune to pump the tank so we don't want to mess with that balance. The biggest part is that Petey only comes in during the morning hours and we make sure there aren't any germs or chemicals that would hurt him. He's pretty smart too, if it doesn't smell right to him he won't drink from it. Also I provide plenty of kitty herbs for him to eat to keep things in line. For the little bit that he might get from the bathroom he won't have any problems. Bill refuses to use anything like SaniFlush or the other toilet bowl cleaners on the toilet because of what it could do to the balance of the septic tank. It's all pretty technical so I keep my nose out of it, after all it's his toilet. Today I'll try to post an image of the little guy. He's hilarious! He now has to ride on Bill's lap when we go out in the Kubota. He flops across Bill's lap, laying there like the king of the world while Bill drives. Every once in awhile he'll get off Bill's lap and come over and ride with me, he doesn't like it as much because I hug him a LOT!

@BearArtistLady That is one very sweet photo of Bill and your fur baby. I'm sure you are very careful with your kiddo.

@BearArtistLady That poor Siamese gal. Years ago I put a flea collar on a kitty and he had a horrid reaction to it. No more of those for my kids.

Lily eats on the kitchen table. She has her bowl of wet cat food there. Her wet cat food now is high priced food. I'm trying to get Petco gift cards from Instagc and Swagbucks so I can get this high priced food. She doesn't drink out of toilet. She has her dry food bowl and water bowl on the cabinet near the kitchen sink. She has come in the bathroom while my mother is using the bathroom and sits on her lap. I refuse for her to sit on my lap while using the bathroom.

Sounds like a fun cat. One of my Persians use to stalk around the den and look for straws in drinks to steal!

One of my rescues, when he finally learned he could trust me, would sit on the arm of the chair when I had meals and when there was something he really really wanted he would reach out and steal it off my fork and then eat it off his paw.

@Paradon I have to add, with a tear in my eyes, that one of the cats I had would steal bear parts to play with. I would be working on them and be missing an arm, leg or ear and would have to search the house for where the cat hid it. Sometimes if I asked the cat where he hid the part he would take me to it, but more often than not he made me search for it...he would be beside me the whole time like it was "You're getting warmer" type game. I could tell by his tail if I was getting close. As long as the tail was straight up I was colder and when I would get close his tail would start to drop, when I found the bear part the tail would be all the way down to the floor. Of course I had to stop and give him some loving to make him feel that it was okay that we finished the game. Then a couple of bears later the game would start over again. I guess it takes special people to understand cats and love them the way we do! People who don't understand cats sure miss out on a lot of fun!!!!
