For Those Who'Ve Ever Wondered Why The Visually Impaired Wear Dark Glasses

I have been legally blind for my entire life, and unless the sun was really getting in my eyes, I never bothered with sunglasses I've always wondered why blind and legally blind people wore them. I've had some tell me their eyes "look weird" and I never saw it. Of course I wouldn't, I am legally blind. LOL I do well with general things, as in I know they have faces, I can see a person's skin and hair colour, but I can't tell their eye colour, and I don't know if they are wearing makeup. I have a hard time with facial recognition. -- An odd thing happened to me yesterday that answered my question, for the most part. I entered the bus kiosk near my apartment, and sat down in the emoty seat. There was a lady sitting next to me on the left. In order to see if the bus was coming, I turned my head to the left, and tried to "squint" down the road. Not really squinting, just me trying to focus on a spot further away than i can usually see. I can usually recognize the lights of the bus or the shape of it, before I can see it. Because of my vision, it takes me about seven seconds to do this. ---- As I'm looking down the road, the lady on my left starts muttering something about giving me dirty looks. Since I wasn't looking at her, I ignored her. I simply turned up my music, and ignored her. I'll be darned if she doesn't take a small bundle of papers out of her purse, and start shipping me with them!!!!!! I ended up calling the cops, because even though this was not injuring me, due to intent, I still considered it was assault. My husband agreed with me, when I told him the story later. Anyway, I waited and waited, and they never showed up, so I went about my day. When I got to Starbucks, I saw a cop car idling infront of the restaurant, so I figured there was a cop inside! I was right, and I told him the whole story. He took it back to the police station and reported it. --- I had a few more errands to run that night, and when I stopped at the variety store at a nearby gas station to get some lottery tockets, I saw a display of sunglasses. I bought myself a nice dark pair of mirrored sunglasses. Now no one can see my eyes, and I can look where i darn well want!!! The funny thing is these friggen glasses are so dark that it takes me twice as long to see what I need to see. LOL! I also wear headphones, because a lot of background noise drives me crazy. Over the music I can still her traffic, horns, vehicles beeping when they back up, and other traffic noise, but what I don't hear is general humanity (kids screaing, people yelling etc.) and loud fans and air consitioners which are mostly white noise anyway. So here I am with altered vision AND hearing, because the world around me is either too darn noisy, or people THINK I'm staring at them. LOL Have you ever heard of anything so crazy? LOL

The person need to be educated which she is not.I am deaf and some help with hearing aid feel people think different of me. Like I was a dumb person. We all have our handicap and try to cope as much as possible. No one should have to endure this.

My first experience in an Uber, I had a deaf driver, and we got lost!!!! There I was knowing we were going the wrong way, not being able to read the signs, nor could I tell the driver. I started typing on my phone screen, and at a red light showed it to him, and we got back on he road. I'm at the mercy of my fantastic hearing, but can easily text my deaf friends.

I'm not legally blind, but it does take me a while to "see" things... I don't wear sunglasses because they cut out too much light and I can't see in the dark.

They are awfully dark, but lighter ones wouldn't mask my eyes he way I need them to. Fortunately being a bit blinder than normal is not as hard as if I were to go deaf. LOL

I am the type of person who would have made the woman feel bad. I've been told that I can be a bit vicious when I want to be. If someone makes me feel bad and I feel as if they did so without any real need to? I'll make them feel just as bad. I know it's not the nicest thing to do but people need to be put in their place sometimes.

Frankly that's what the idiots deserve. They shouldn't look in the mirror if they don't want to see their reflections.

I want to ask, what do you mean legally blind? But I admire you because though you are legally blind, it does not stop you to do more of your regular things.

Imagine being able to see that a person has eyes, a nose, a mouth, but you don't know who that person is. How can people tell one face from another? Imagine knowing what street you're on because of the landmarks, but not being able to read the street signs. Imagine not having a sense of direction. Go north... WHAT? Turn right.... OK, just say that next time. LOL Imagine not being able to see license plates on cars infront of you.
