Can a cat have rabies if it seems normal?

I am very worried. I observed the cat who bit me. It plays, eats and drinks water. But I am scared I have rabies, even if the cat seems fine. 8 days had passed after the bite. And the cat still lives. And she eats, drinks. Can she have rabies? I am very worried because I needed 2 shots. Rabies immunoglobuline and anti rabies. And they gave me only one shot. The anti rabies vaccine.

I went to my doctor, and she said she doesn't know. My only option is to ask here.

Trust your medical professionals here. I would keep an eye on the wound for other infections, though.

The wound is almost healed. The doctor doesn't know. That's what she said.

double check with your doctors but if they haven't insisted on the other shots and the cat still seems ok you should be alright. Have they done tests on the cat too? If it is rabid, it could bite others too

@dya80dya if the cat is rabid you need to get it tested and as much as it might upset you, it could be destroyed - rabies can kill horribly if it spreads.

@arthurchappell It's not rabid because that cat eats and drinks. If it had rabies it couldn't swallow.

No. The cat wasn't tested. And the cat is aggressive when she receives food , it's defending her food. It didn't bite other cats. It plays with other cats and attacks only humans. I hope it is not rabid.

I hope you let yourself be injected with tetanus anti-toxin. A rabid dog or cat immediately changes behaviour once it bites a person. But I would still like you to go to a doctor

I had vaccine against tetanus. I am glad that the cat didn't change behaviour.

@dya80dya really? so, you are safe if the cat did not show any behavioral change. if the bite mark is already dry and healed, may i suggest that you do not cover it but let it be open. clostridium tetani, the bacteria that causes tetanus, is anaerobic (it thrives in an oxygen-free environment).

it was possible, If the rabies that infect a person is still at an early stage or before symptoms appear, the doctor will take a treatment called post-exposure prophylaxis that has proven to be very effective in counteracting rabies symptoms. Through post-exposure prophylaxis, the doctor will clean the infected body part, and provide a series of vaccinations to prevent the virus from spreading to the brain and nervous system. In some cases, the doctor will also provide anti-rabies serum.

Animal bites could cause rabies, so it's good you saw your doctor.

@dya80dya Sometimes the signs come later, I believe, or they aren't rabid.

But the cat seems normal. It's hard to tell if it has rabies or not.

You would know by now if the cat had rabies. . . or if you were exhibiting signs of having rabies. You are fine.

If they gave you the shot surely you should be okay..I am not sure about it, but I hope the very best for you. If the cat had rabies it would surely be known to you.
