One More Year

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014.
For four years, I had to use a nursing pad so blood won't stain my bra and clothes. My nipple was bleeding. I had all the tests but no doctors were successful enough to find where the bleeding was coming from.
In four years time, I was a patient who did not know what tomorrow may bring. I continued living, of course. It was nothing to me. I got use to wearing a pad in my bra. I go to bed wearing a bra and I hated every minute of it.
No doctors were able to give me the answers why my nipple was bleeding. I cannot have a surgery until they know what was going on. I suffered mentally and emotionally.
Until I met this male doctor. He did his initial exams and as soon as he got done with the examinations, he scheduled me for a minor surgery. He removed all my milk ducts, but before he did that, he asked if I am planning to have a baby or to breastfeed. Operation was successful. I went home that same day.
I had a zero stage breast cancer. DCIS that's what it is called. There is a 99.9% chance that it will not come back. I am worried still, though. I am always cautious so I do a self-exam every month.
There's no breast cancer history in my family. I was the first to have it and I hope I will be the first and the last. I am not a smoker. I drink socially but not heavy. I have a clean living life, so to speak, but I had it.
Now, I only have one year to say that I am a cancer survivor. I am praying that it won't come back.
Have you or anyone you know ever suffered from cancer?
EDIT:
While I was commenting here, I saw a discussion of similar interest as mine. I read it. She took Tamoxifen. I did not. I was warned with the side effects. I was advised that it was not necessary for me to take it. It is my decision and I chose not to.
Side effects could make me infertile and I wanted to have a baby. I wasn't informed about ovarian cancer. That is one of the side effects in taking Tamoxifen. I am glad I did not. I let God take care of everything.

I am sorry to hear about your mother.
I loved that doctor. I will never forget his name for the rest of my life. He saved my life. What if the cancer popped out of the sack? What if it metastasize? Those scary thoughts.
I am really blessed. God sent him over to help me.

they removed my ducts too..i never had cancer, but it was going down that road..
my ducts used to back up and create huge cysts that eventually exploded and left holes.they took skin off my legs to replace the removed aeriolas.

I am happy for you that you have that luck of getting rid of it for good. My mom did past the 5 year test but on her 5th year she got into lung cancer and 5 years of fighting it she eventually succumbed to it. But I think she got 10 years battling the big c and she fought a good battle for life and love. I wish that you won your life back and live life to the fullest. I read somewhere that love and positive living can beat it as well.

You are lucky that after a number of doctors who examined you, one finally was able to give the right treatment.
Truly, when we are of a disease we seem not sure of how long will we survive it, our thoughts will always be at a frantic and scared mode.
It is a must, that when we are of a serious disease we should always have not only a second opinion but 3 or more opinions from different doctors. Doctors that are tested to have cured the disease.
I pray that your cancer will never come back. And you are right for not taking that medicine.

If it helps, my best friend was diagnosed in 1991, much higher than stage 0, and had all the treatments, and is still alive and well today.

It is scary reading about your experience there. Thank you for sharing it with us. I have something similar to cancer & I have lived with it for the last four decades. No symptoms yet but it is a matter of time I have been told. I will just live one day at a time I guess. God bless you & your faith in Him.
