Two southern foods make a strange dish!

We recently spent three days at Nags Head, NC on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Had a wonderful time, ate some delicious seafood, toured some landmarks. But the strangest thing I ate was a combination of two favorites in the south: pimento cheese and grits. We were at a nice restaurant, Basnight Lone Cedar, when I saw a dish on the menu that I had to try. Pimento Cheese Grit Cake with Pepper Jack cheese sauce. It wasn't so bad, kind of like a big square of corn bread. The best part was the pepper jack cheese. Now, I like Pimento cheese. And I like grits. But there are some things that should never co-mingle. Have you ever tried this dish?

Hmm, it sounds really interesting. I do like Pimento Cheese but I haven't had any in quite awhile. I like Corn bread but I only eat it with pintos and spinach. I am not as big a fan of grits but I do eat "dinner grits" that come in the red box, I can't remember the brand.

I love home made grits with butter, salt and pepper. Also, homemade pimento cheese is so much better than store bought and very easy to make.

@1creekgirl I was more of an oatmeal girl growing up and never did go for grits. I have never made Pimento Cheese myself but I have eaten homemade before. It is so delicious.

No! Grits for me have to be sweet. Pimento cheese with white bread, Pepper jack all by itself.

The Outer Banks is a wonderful place, isn't it? I hope we can get there next summer for a vacation. I am not a fan of Pimento cheese. I like grits but I will take mine with just some salt, pepper and butter.

Are you close to the Outer Banks too? I love going there. We went one December for my birthday...the first day was as warm and pretty as spring, then the next day it turned back into winter with cold rain.

I've never had grits so I'm not familiar with what would go well together.

Some people like cheese in their grits, so I can maybe see the pepper jack and pimento cheese, but it's a stretch.

I have never tried those together, but I love to eat both separately at different times.

They are a strange combination, and I like all three, just not together.

I love grits but I don't think I have had pimento cheese since I moved to the south. Always remember that no self respecting southerner uses instant grits..

I love most any kind of cheese, but high Triglycerides has made me cut back.
