Eyes across the room

It happened at the farewell party for a colleague who was leaving shortly to take up permanent residence abroad. The turnout was quite huge - work mates, friends, family members and other well wishers.
Helene was standing in a group of four, when a feeling of being watched came over her. She turned, and over the heads of the milling crowd her eyes made contact with the penetrating gaze of a tall handsome man.
She stared back - and like a moth drawn to a flame she left the group and made her way through the crowds towards him . The two met midway because he had also started to move towards her.
Undoubtedly there was a real connection between the two, and during the next three hours, they talked, joked, danced and ate.
A happy ending? - unfortunately no. Certainly not the way Helene would have liked.
One of the guests noticing how absorbed in each other the two were, thought it best to inform Helene that her prince charming was a married man. . She decided to ask him outright and he admitted that he was.
What a blow for Helene, but not surprising really. Unless one lives in a country where males greatly outnumber females - then it isn't easy to find a handsome , intelligent male over 35 who is unattached.
Helene thought it best not to see him again, but for the next three months she was haunted by the memory of those compelling, mesmerizing eyes across the room. Have you ever found yourself in such a situation? How did you meet the love of your life?

I'm still looking and so I better improve the way I stare across rooms and work on my mesmerizing look. Maybe I should go to school and get some lessons. Is that too mesmerizing?

I felt bad for Helene! But then without knowing the details about a person, it is not a wise thing to fall in love with him/her at the first site! There are many such flirts for whom it is just a time pass while for people like Helene that is a serious thing!

maybe the man wants the lady to be her 'another love of his life?'

I thought I did once. I was learning Hebrew and made a very good friend and the circumstances were not right and he went back to Australia and never heard from him again. Who know what could have been. Sometimes I think about him but not much. That is very sad he was married but he was honest about when she asked but why did he flirt with her if he was. When I came to live in Israel they did say there were more women than men but I still came and am still here today.

Was that a real situation? It was gripping like the pages of an MB except for the ending.
Helen was wise to let it go

Well that is life - things happen that give us instant happiness and then some sudden shock. I hope that Helene will get over this thing quickly.

Sad story. In my case he took the initiative and requested a common friend to arrange a meeting. Veni, vidi, vici

Yes, I met my first love while walking on a street by the beach; our eyes met and we started a relation that lasted for one year. I´ve never met another person that way
