Roasting Cauliflower

United States
July 19, 2018 12:08pm CST
When my daughter was coming home from work last night she stopped at the farm and picked up two huge heads of cauliflower. They are gorgeous and white as snow. Believe it or not she only paid $1.50 for each head and that's way cheaper than the supermarket sells for smaller ones. While she's at work today I'm going to roast one so we can have it with dinner and I'll save the other for another day. I love roasted vegetables but cauliflower is my favorite. The only other way I would prefer cauliflower is if it was breaded and fried BUT since I rarely fry anything roasting is the way to go. How about you....do you like roasted vegetables?

@Mike197602 breading and frying puts it in a new dimension

The cooking smell isn't great if you boil it but roasting would be different...I looked up breading and frying too and that looks good.

Do you roast it whole? I think I remember doing that years ago? Hard to do today with a fussy husband who will only eat carrots, cucumber and corn when it comes to veggies.

@Marilynda1225 I think I made a sauce that I poured over the cauliflower head and "baked" it in the oven. This was a lifetime ago so doubt if I could even find the recipe if I wanted to. Do you put anything on the cauliflower?

@patgalca when I roast it I break it apart and toss with some olive oil and then sprinkle with salt and pepper and put it on a cookie sheet to bake

No I break it all apart so it cooks faster It's hard when someone else is not adventurous when it comes to veggies

I think that the only vegetable that I've ever roasted is potatoes. So, I am not really very well-versed at how this is done or what it would taste like. I'll have to go to a site and look it up, and maybe you'll post about the outcome tomorrow-hint hint!!

I sure will post about it. I break apart the cauliflower, toss it with some Olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Throw in the oven and bake for about 35 min or too tender. I'm sure there's different ways to make it

They are fresher than the grocery store ones too - they will be tasty ! I love to roast root veggies - like carrots, squashes, potato. Then some greens like broccolini or asparagus.
