Not exactly what I planned

I wanted to mow an area that is particularly full of poison ivy. Hubby breaks out badly from it. Plan was to mow, then spray it with weed killer. This is a grampa of a poison ivy vine. It goes clear up an ancient mulberry tree. Some of the stems are as thick as my wrist. I mentioned this to hubby and how I would like to chop on it and get some weed killer into those stems. He decided to get the axe and do it. I pointed out a tree that he had taken down half way last summer or the year before. It is in the way of me working on the ivy in the back of the lot. He brought the van around and used a chain to pull it out. I cut small branches for a while and had a trailer full, so hubby hooked it up and we went to the burn site. We had lunch and now it is nap time. Not what I had planned but it will work.

I am glad we do not have poison ivy in this area. The best is to use a strong week killer on those vines.

Yes, we are doing it. We will reapply every week or so as well until we win.

@GardenGerty I had to do the same for an invasive plant, impossible to get rid of it without weed killer.

Oh, what work! Our landscaper told us to cut a vine and pour potent weed/poison ivy killer into it and it would kill the vines, plants, and roots. He wouldn't even go near it! When I pull weeds while Doodles suns himself or hunts mice, I've touched poison ivy. As soon as I get into the house I wash my hands 3 times with blue Dawn dish detergent and hot water. I haven't gotten a rash, yet.

@GardenGerty Thanks for the tips, and especially thanks about the cold water. That makes perfect sense. My younger son had a bad case of it when he was a kid, but stays away from it now.

I try very hard to stay out of it completely. So far I have never had a rash from it.

Not really out yet, but it is going to die out, hopefully. It sneaks around everywhere.

I am happy that you found a solution! I never had a problem with that plant but some years ago I was up in the jungle and some nasty plant cut my foot and I wound up with an infection.

There are a lot of plants that will cause infections. Rose thorns can. I have a thorny plant called greenbriar all over the back lot as well.

@GardenGerty I will never forget this as it was my first experience in a Thai hospital. My Thai is still not very good but then it was terrible. So I did a song and dance routine to let the staff know what was wrong. They all applauded and then in perfect English told me that I need a series of Tetanus shots!

I am rather highly allergic to it, I have to stay totally away from it, our poor grandson Brandon got a bad case from working in our yard!! I envy you the nap time, I so need one.

Well, I did not sleep, but I did rest well. My brother is highly allergic, and my husband seems to be as well.
