Fashion and Fads

I've been around a long time and have seen fashions and fads come and go. Some weren't so bad and others were completely crazy but hey that's what life is all about. The current fad that made no sense to me is ripped jeans. It seems as if everyone and their brother has now spent money on ripped jeans. At first it bothered me but then as the fad caught on it became normal. The other day I saw a guy on tv that had on jeans and they weren't ripped. I realized how accustomed I had become to ripped jeans that his looked weird without all those holes. Now the one I really don't understand is men who don't wear socks. It seems as if wearing shoes without socks is the craze but it still looks weird to me. I don't know how it would be comfortable walking around in shoes without socks but maybe they wear those little sock thingees we women wear? I see more and more men without socks when watching tv and it just is weird when they sit down and you see bare ankles. Are there any fashions or fads that drive you crazy?

I cannot stand ripped jeans and it is too long that they are around. Men wearing sandals do not wear socks, but men wearing shoes wear socks, at least here.

@Marilynda1225 This is what also women do, shoes require socks.

I dislike the ripped jeans also. But when I think about it, I believe that they were around when our son was an adolescent, and he's 27 now. Its like the cold shoulder tops and dresses, I don't like those and think that they are a fad also. Classic and timeless clothing is more my style, and obviously, yours also.

I didn't realize how long ripped jeans have been in style. I'm not fond of those cold shoulder tops of dresses either.

What surprises me is for how many years ripped jeans have been fashionable. Usually fashion fads change rather quickly but this one seems to stay forever. I haven't noticed men without socks yet in Germany. They must have these small sock thingies or they would all get blisters.

How those ripped jeans became fashionable and have stayed fashionable for so long boggles my mind. I agree about the sock thingies and the blisters.

Ripped jeans have never been a fad with our family - ever. My husband only wears socks with dress shoes, when we go out to expensive restaurants, or when it's cold. He looks great in the summer and in Florida without socks. Btw, I never cared for women who wear "slacks" and a tee top. Ugh!!!!

My older grandchildren have those ripped jeans and I know they are expensive. I guess I'm just getting old when I shake my head at some of the fads out there.

@Marilynda1225 I've looked at them at Saks and shook my head. Now jumpsuits are back. Ugh! And palazzo pants! Ugh! I edited my original comment. I was sitting outside and the sun was blinding me, sun glasses and all. I just read what I wrote. Holy cow!!!!

I love ripped jeans, especially since most of my jeans rip anyway because I'm a klutz, might as well already have some help. Ankle socks or below the ankle socks are really common, they are so much more comfortable and give more blood flow to your legs. Nothing really drives my crazy. I just let people wear what they want to wear. Let me wear my gothic dresses, band tees, and flannel shirts, and I'll let you do whatever you want that makes you feel comfortable.

Maybe if I was younger some of these fashions would appeal to me. I know back in my day we had some crazy fads too.

I can understand fads as I wore some crazy things in my younger days. As we get older it is less easy to understand I guess.

I always have my own style, sneaker, faded pants, white shirts. The one thing I'm keen enough is the gadgets.

I like all kinds of fashion trends that make you look elegant without compelling you to expose your body much. I like Palazzo and tops.
