Consumption of products that are packaged in Biodegradable organic wrapping.

If you continue to buy things that are enclosed in some kind of plastic you will be contributing to the constant flow of plastic that ends up somewhere on the planet it is not doing any good, such as a landfill, a tree limb, flapping in the wind or stopping up your waste water drains. You can still get things that are packaged in PAPER, CARDBOARD or GLASS. You can opt out from buying anything made from PLASTIC. When the consumer changes their purchasing habits from plastic to paper and organic materials, the manufacturers will be FORCED to change. When the consumer ignores the ecological damage to the eco-sphere and buys plastic STRAWS, CUPS, BAGS, BABY DIAPERS and so forth, it will only make the manufacturer's RICHER and the planet's environment WORSE. Read this article by the BBC news on line.
A British company says their bags biodegrade to nothing, but not everyone is convinced.

I read the article but it is very controversial as to whether it is true or not or whether it is safe or not.

@lookatdesktop I think that the only way they would be safe if in the end the material breaks down into something that doesn't harm the soil.

We normally carry our own cotton bags when on grocery shopping and we clearly tell the shop owners that we don't want those plastic bags! In India Mumbai City faces lot of trouble during rainy season because of blocking of these plastic bags and other material! So they have banned use of plastic in the city and the people caught using plastic are heavily fined!

@lookatdesktop ,India is a large Country with dense population unless such measures are not undertaken that will become very difficult to maintain clean environment.

Your country should be highly respected for that effort and I give you my appreciation and hope that others will follow this great example.

I have reuseable bags but I always forget to bring them when I am out shopping. I do reuse the plastic bags that I get but it still ends up in the landfill. I am slowly trying to switch everything to glass. I've seen posts on facebook going around about how straws are beneficial to the elderly or impaired individuals. THey do make stainless steel straws now and these can be used in many cases I would think.

They make biodegradable straws also. here is a link from World Centric, below about it. Take a look at it.
World Centric® compostable straws are made from Ingeoâ„¢, which is derived from plants grown in the USA.  Instead of using petroleum-based plastic which create toxicity and environmental pollution, you can now use our compostable, eco-friendly alternative! W

@lookatdesktop I see that they offer more than just straws. Now if we can get the waste facilities around us to adapt to industrial type composting. I checked and there is one such facility about a half hour away.

Today so many items are over-packaged, I am sure that half of what I bring home goes in the recycling

Yep and paying for shipping based on bulk weight costs us plenty over all.

Yes, very good idea!! We should stop buying plastic!!! What do U think about sending our plastics to jupiter or a planet with a hot atmosphere where it will just burn up in the atmosphere!!!!

That sounds like a great idea. Lets see if that guy who is planning a trip to the red planet can take some of that plastic and send it straight into the sun on his way to Mars.

It's something I desperately want to do but the food companies make it so hard by wrapping every thing in plastic or putting in trays or extra bags and all sorts of silly unnecessary waste. I think we have to campaign to get some changes made so it is easier for consumers to avoid buying plastic.
