We moved

birdbath

Most accurately, we moved the bird bath.. I wanted it out front where we would be able to see it. We had noticed it had been knocked over the other day. I cannot imagine how it got knocked over, as it is concrete and very heavy. Surely the armadillo did not do it. I am betting on a small earth tremor. I thought the cardinals would appreciate it being up front. They visit my lattice fencing often. I hear them in the trees all the time. There is a male and female that I usually see together. I will do a better job keeping the birdbath filled in this spot.

We have enough yard to watch many things. It makes me happy too. I finally found out the little birds are black capped chickadees.

@GardenGerty That is good. Wildlife is comforting. I will look them up online to get the idea of how cute they are.

I am sure in this heat they appreciate it. It was 104 today!

@GardenGerty I believe it. And I'm tired of it.

Could someone have run into it in the night and knocked it over? I don't think I have ever seen lattice used as fencing before. My grandmother had it along both sides of her porch and had rose vines climbing up them. I don't have her green thumb unfortunately.

I actually thought a large dog. It is very heavy and it would take some real determination. That is why I am inclined to think we had a tremor.I call the lattice "fence" but it is more of a privacy screen. We sit behind it in our lawn chairs and enjoy coffee or iced tea. It also gives the birds something to sit on.

@GardenGerty just something to divide the property from the neighbors a bit I assume. I wonder if you can look online and see if they have a chart of where tremors were felt.

It's great to look after the birds but so much more pleasurable if we can actually see them enjoying what we've done for them. Was that heavy to lift?

When I was thirty, I could lift it. I also injured my shoulder doing so. There is a square of concrete under it that is about 8x8x4 inches. The base is a separate piece and the top is the third piece. We mostly used a two wheel dolly. When I quit thinking it was smart to lift it, I learned to roll or flop it, but this time we used a two wheeled dolly.

We are lucky in that our birdbaths fill automatically. I hate the thought of birds relying on finding water at the bath then finding it empty.

Well, that sounds nifty, never seen one like that. Right now we have enough rain that the birds have plenty of options. So does the cat, although she likes to lay on the birdbath.

@GardenGerty Our gardens are reticulated so Vince just ran a line from the garden retic up into the birdbath.

Our birdbath is surrounded by greenery and bushes so that birds rest after their bath.

How lovely. We have trees above and to the side and the fence and tall plants.

@GardenGerty Is your bath exposed to the sun specially at noon?

Now who could be doing that? It looks like it won't be knocked down anymore in its new place.

My guess is a small earth tremor. We have a lot of limestone close under the soil.

It is a custom for us here to have these shallow bowls of various types to allow birds, bees, and butterflies a place to get water. It is fun to watch what comes to drink.

Looks heavy enough. Have you planted any creeper to trail over the fence? I see some green.

Chances are that fence will not be permanent. There are an assortment of plants in front of it. Lilies and day lilies and a plant called mullein. The finches liked the mullein and picked out the seeds from the bloom stem.

It looks solid enough. Would someone do it on purpose?

I do not think so, as there are other worse things that they could do. We only have one close neighbor and they are on that side, but would not have done that kind of thing.

Do you put some foods to attract the bird or just water? Nice spot I think.

I do enjoy all the things I see out the window. I was outside this morning and saw a red fox run down the middle of the road for at least a city block.

A bird bath is so nice to have. I am sure birds agree! They can play, drink and, well, of course...bathe!
