Down the non-dairy road...

A photo I took of the non-dairy products that I bought today

The reason I stopped on the way home today to shop was to see what kinds of non-dairy products my usual grocery store had. Of course, they didn't have everything I would have liked them to, but I grabbed a few things. The reason I'm getting non-dairy stuff is because the last time I was in the emergency room with a gall bladder "attack", the ER doctor said to avoid dairy. I guess because of the fat? Anyway, so far I've been drinking Silk Almond milk, which I found that I like, and hopefully the yogurt, sorbet and cheese slices I bought today will be palatable, too. The other night I was looking up non-dairy cheese ('cause doctor or no, I can't completely give up my cheese!) and the Daiya brand was one of the ones I looked up, and just re-looking to make sure, it had good ratings (granted, the rating was given for shredded style Daiya cheese, but I don't think cheese slices, which I bought, would be that different, would it? I'm thinking I might try to make a quesadilla out of one of the cheeses later to see how it goes.

Good luck. I hope you like all that you have bought. The cheese slices may or may not melt as easily. I hope they do.

Yeah, that was one of the things that it said on the review, that the person liked the way it melted. That's one reason I have been "researching" non-dairy cheese, 'cause I want one that acts closest to "real" cheese. The review I read said that this brand melted pretty well--though I'm sure it won't be 100% like "real" chees.

There is no reason to avoid dairy specifically with a bad gallbladder. It is more just limiting fat intake in general. Unfortunately, there is no real way to know what will cause an attack. It is hit-or-miss, meals with a lot of fat tend to be the ones that cause them but really anything can. The only way to prevent them is to get that sucker removed. I had mine out 8 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did.
