Needless to say the Rolling Stones’ biggest classic record requires little introduction. “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” is universally regarded the greatest rock song of all time and certainly the most famous guitar intro. There were many unusual groups in the new wave era and none more unique than Devo. David Bowie and Iggy Pop helped Devo get a record deal and Brian Eno produced their first album. Devo is difficult to explain. No else quite sounds or looks like them and they are an acquired taste. Devo was never for the masses though busting out of alternative radio into the mainstream with a major hit in “Whip It.” What can you say about a band wearing space suits and bizarre pillbox hats. Devo’s cover of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” first appeared on the “B Stiff” ep then on the album “Q: Are We Not men? A: We are Devo?” The single went uncharted. You could say they did a number on the song. They gave it the Devolution treatment practically turning it something sounding nothing at all like the original.
