Ten Albums “Everybody” Owned — Except Me: Thriller

This is the tenth and final installment of ten albums that sold well, considered “classics” in the world of music, and just completely bypassed my record collection. Yes, I’ll soon be starting the “albums ‘everybody’ owned — including me” series, but for now, here’s the one album that made it to legendary status without my help. Thriller - Michael Jackson And I honestly believe “everybody” does own this except me. Thus far, it’s estimated that the album has sold over sixty six million copies. This is the album that, for all its quality, may have destroyed music. Most people who were around when this album came out know the videos as well as they know the songs. When Michael Jackson spent a million bucks on a video I knew music was in trouble. Sure enough, by the end of the decade it wasn’t, “Have you heard so-and-so’s new song,” but, “Have you seen so-and-so’s new video.” Oh, and I will point out that one of the lamest songs by great artists ever is on this album: the duet with Paul McCartney, “The Girl is Mine.” Okay, that blistering Eddie Van Halen guitar solo in “Beat It” saves the day (and the album). Wait, do I sound like someone who doesn’t have the album? Well, now you know why: it was so ubiquitous in the 80s that I never felt a need to get it. So if you need to know who that one oddball is who never bought Thriller, it was me. Now I’ll just beat it. Thanks for reading. Thriller Recorded by Michael Jackson Produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson Released in 1982 I don’t care how many times you hear it, this is a great song:

I was in my late primary school years when I heard the Michael Jackson's Thriller, Beat It and Billy Jean. Thriller is the most amazing and classic musical track ever. It is a great son how ever many times I hear it. The other two songs I also adore. I like his track Black or White as well.

I didn't collect music until much later in life, so I didn't have this one at the time . . . but I would have! It was totally MJ's time - loved Beat It, and yes, loved the videos - and still do (thank you, YouTube).

Its an okay song in my opinion, and definitely an over-played songs over the years. I did not buy that album, or any of his albums. Just not the kind of music that I would pay money to hear.

I never owned Thriller although I am a huge fan of Michael Jackson. I did have a video cassette of the documentary "The Making of Thriller", which went through the entire filming of the video Thriller as well as the playlist.

I did not buy music back then, it was free on the radio. I was a huge fan back in those days.

I got the album as well as the videos. Those videos were like very short movies - no wonder they cost so much to produce.
