My Aching Back

United States
July 25, 2018 9:15am CST
I don't know what I did but my back is killing me. When I got up from my desk chair last evening I felt a twinge in my lower back and thought "oh no". Needless to say it got worse as the night progressed, I couldn't sleep very well and now I'm hobbling around this morning. Today will be a day of alternating heat and ice with the hopes this gets better quickly. What really stinks is that this is the second time in just a few months that this has happened. Last time it took weeks before I felt like my "old" self. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is minor and my "old" self will be fine in no time.

My back was killing me today too, and I don't know why, or what I possibly did to make it hurt so much. I'm hoping it will feel much better after a hot shower and good night's sleep.

Hope your back feels better too. Crazy how you're feeling fine one minute and in pain the next

@Marilynda1225 I don't know if I just slept wrong, or bent over wrong, or what, but it definitely was weird how I was feeling great one minute and then my back was killing me the next minute.

Sometimes the bad-back thing will strike me out of the blue, and I cannot come up with a reason why my back is giving me trouble. I do know that I need to strengthen my core to prevent back pain, but I have slacked off on doing the exercises necessary.

Oh, I definitely feel for you. Nothing can ruin a day like a back that decides to begin aching. I have tried heat, but never ice... I will have to remember that!!

My chiropractor always suggested alternating both. Sadly I live too far from him now

Are you sure it's not a minor kidney problem? You should go to see your doctor and ask to check.

I'm sorry that you have an aching back. I hope that you're able to take it slow and maybe do some gentle stretches after some heat therapy. That should do it wonders.

@Marilynda1225 I've had a tough week. I am getting very frustrated with the time that it takes for my back to heal. Today I am going for a hair appointment. I told my girl that I would shower and wash it here and go over with it wet. She may just have to spritz it down, before cutting, but it will surely help me feel better. I wanted to get my low lights put in, but my back won't allow me to sit for that long just yet. I hope that today is a better day for you.

Fortunately most back issues usually get better with rest. Ice and ibuprofen should help....

Take it from me who has chronic back problems- it could be your bed needs to be firmer, chair not right, etc. You should ask at the doc's and get a referral for physio or something before it gets worse. It does help a lot.

So sorry to hear that! Tight stomach muscles have helped prevent those rotten back pains for me. There are so many excellent exercises that can relieve your pain. You can PM me if your regular methods don't help. Feel better soon!

If ice packs and heat has cured it then it could just be a muscle pull somewhere. A bad posture could lead to this
