For all you cat lovers out there

In our woo-woo state of Oregon, perhaps the woo-woo capital is the southern Oregon city of Ashland. There, a woman found a cougar asleep in her living room. The cat woke up, so she used "feline-speak eye blinking" and telepathy to guide him out the door and back into the hills. The big cat had walked in through an open door. There have been many sightings in Oregon lately. A lion was killed by police in a residential area of our adjacent town of Springfield just yesterday. I think that Ashland woman should be teaching feline telepathy to all of us. See link for more on the big cats. https://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2018/07/oregon_woman_finds_cougar_in_l.html

Cougars are beautiful animal and I think I would have done the same. Animals only attack if they feel in danger.

@JamesHxstatic First, give him food, possibly place the bowl outside the house... then talk to the big kitty.

@xFiacre @LadyDuck @JamesHxstatic @DWDavis @Corbin5 @jstory07 @Marilynda1225 @DianneN I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the second meaning of the word 'cougar' yet. (from a dictionary) "a woman, who is considered to be eager for young males, the pendant to young guys who go for mature women." I don't remember in which context I learnt this.

That would be very brave since he might be hungry.

What does woo-woo mean, please?

Well, per the Urban Dictionary, it is: dubiously or outlandishly mystical, supernatural, or unscientific

@jameshxstatic I read this on behalf of my wife who is a cat lover. I was brought up in what was little more than a clearing in the bush in central Africa. A nurse who lived not far away came out of her house early one morning and saw on her step a leopard skin all neatly folded up - a present from an appreciative patient who had no cash to pay with she thought. That had happened before. She bent down to pick it up and discovered that the folded skin still had a leopard in it. It bit her hand then ran into the bush.

So do you think their numbers are increasing or are they just getting more used to suburbia?

Both really. I was stunned to find out that our Oregon Fish and Wildlife Division estimates that there are 6000 mountain lions in Oregon, about the same in California, while Washington to the north, has around 2000.

@JudyEv Partially. There is a management plan, but every spring there are more born and young ones must seek new territory.

I do not sleep with doors open. Not for naps, not at night. That in itself is woowoo. I would have gone to another room and locked the door though until the beastie was gone.

Maybe she lives in a rural area and has no a/c. I would not leave doors open either.

I would try to keep my door closed, just in case the eye blinking was not enough.

No was saying Here Kitty Kitty to that cat! It is sad the lion had to be shot. Had it killed someone? Couldn't they have tranked it and remove it far into the wild?

Some kids had spotted it while outside playing. It had done nothing that I know of. I have no idea why they had to kill the poor thing.

@JamesHxstatic Wow, she is the cat whisperper. She should teach people how to do it if she can unless it is something not everyone can do.
