It's A Crime To Pay More Than A Dime

There is a commercial that plays often on the radio around here for a car dealership that claims comedically, "It's a crime to pay more than a dime...down."
While I get the 'comedic' element of the commercial, I have never been an advocate of paying little or no money down on a vehicle. Financing is expensive, and who wants to have a payment for the long haul?
When we bought our Ford Edge we put down $10,000 and kept our payments below $300 a month. When we bought our Ford F-150 we put down $14,000 and kept payments right at $300 a month.
Keeping the payments lower also helps to pay off the loans faster since, at least for us, we can afford higher payments.
The commercial claims it's a crime to pay more than a dime down. I say it's a crime to not put down a significant down payment to better manage the financing.

I paid cash for the car I just bought. The last thing I need is the stress of a car payment.

@snowy22315 If they can be avoided, it is best.

I paid cash for the last two slightly used cars, I got about 50,000 more miles till I get another. I may buy new the next time.

Long or short haul, financing a vehicle is expensive no matter what. Add an extended warranty to the mix and that increases the cost. However, it is wise to do so. Saved us a bundle with our F150.

I have always paid full price on a car but then again I always bought used until the last one.
