Home at last!!! What a relief

We went up north to Gilroy California on Monday July 30th. It was a combination trip to see Bill's doctors and to visit his daughter. I also got to go to the thrift shops and the craft stores there too (they have craft stores we don't have down here and if we do happen to have them they are about as far off as the ones in Gilroy). I had a wonderful time shopping the thrift stores and walked out with my arms loaded with "finds" of all kinds. I'll be busy for quite awhile making bears from fake fur jackets and vests. I also found stuff to put in my booth space in the shop. I also got to go to Harbor Freight. I love the place!!!! It sounds odd for a woman to love a tool store, but I never claimed to be normal. I found a replacement drill for the one lost in the fire, along with the nut driver set I needed to replace the one for setting the bolts and nuts for the joints in the various bears. The main purpose for the drill is for making the joints for the bears. I could order them ready made but they are about 4 times the amount I would spend for them by making them myself. A 4 by 8 foot piece of masonite costs me about $9 and I get between 350 and 1000 joints out of one sheet of the masonite. Where the same amount of joints would cost me about $40 to $250. So it is much less costly for me to make them. We get to visit with Bill's daughter, son in law, their dogs and Bill's grandson. We have a wonderful time with them so it is more than worth the trip to get to see them. We also visit Bill's doctors that he has known for many many years and seen as doctor/patient relationship for the same amount of time. This time was for a ultrasound of his heart. It took about half an hour for the testing to be done and then the rest of the day was ours. So we all had lunch and off we went to Salvation Army where I found a Coach handbag...the real thing not a knock off! I got it for a very very reasonable price!!!!!!! That made the whole day!!! Then we made plans for dinner and Bill's daughter went back to work and we went back to our room to relax for a few hours before dinner. That was the only complaint I had about the whole trip. We stayed at Motel 6 and they have really upgraded their accommodations! The beds are great, the curtains are not the see through type they used to have, there are plenty of towels, there is a nice table and really nice bedside tables. They changed from carpet to wood floors which is a really nice touch. My only complaint is that the chairs were designed by the Marquis De Sade! They could break your back in less than a minute!!! The most comfortable seat in the whole room is the toilet!!!!!! I have tried sitting on them every way I know how, with a pillow from the bed, with my special orthopedic pillow, with a blanket, towels, jackets, with my feet propped up and nothing helps make the chairs more comfortable to sit on. They are horrible! I'll get up and go sit on the toilet and it is so comfortable that you could sit on it for hours and hours. I wonder if the people who ordered the chairs for the rooms sat on them or not. I am leaning towards the belief that they didn't or if they did it was for less than 30 seconds. I get to the motel and can't wait to come home again just because of the horrible chairs. I carry miniature bears to hand sew with me so that I can sit in Bill's daughter's chairs at the diningroom table and sew the bears together....I also sew them in the car when we're going from point "A" to point "B". Does anyone else have that problem when they go to a motel? Or is it just the Motel 6 chain? If I could figure a way to carry my own chair with us without using up the limited amount of room we have in the Mustang (I take up a lot of room with all the finds for the shop....I almost bought a saddle this time but there definitely wasn't the room for one in the trunk... The inflatables are great except that working around them with pins and needles sewing doesn't quite work out well either.... so there aren't too many options. Anyway it is wonderful being home and on the couch talking to my friends on the lot.

My son in law is going to the Philippines in a couple of days. He loves it there and has a girl friend there! I am sitting on my spot on the couch thoroughly enjoying being home and being thankful that we aren't going north for a few weeks again. I love going north to Gilroy, but I also love being home and having my peace and quiet too. Who ever coined the phrase "There's no place like home" should have received an award!!! It is so true!!!!!!

@Jessabuma He so loves the Philippines. If he could he would move there I'm sure. He also has a girl friend there too. He had gone there in March and was so in love with the country and the people that he scheduled the next trip before the first one wasn't over. The family is all placing bets on when he and Amy are going to get married. We get a big kick out of his excitement to the trip to the Philippines...he leaves on Monday (if I remember right) and will be there for two weeks. So if you see a BIG blond American there, that is my grandson...he weighs 360 pounds (he has been on a diet and lost forty plus pounds!) so he will be hard to miss.

I stay at Motel 6 only cause they allow our pup to stay there, too. I call the place my walled tent. No shampoo and barely any soap. Pretty awful but the mattress is okay.

@BearArtistLady I hear you about needing a decent pillow. I have to get decent sleep cause its about a 5 hour drive back and some of that in heavy traffic.

@sallypup We've got about a 4 hour drive home. It's about two and a half hours back to Paso Robles and then about 45 minutes for picking up "necessities" like the newspaper, food, lotto tickets, and a Starbucks to keep us cool during the drive home. I snuck in a nap during the drive back to Paso, I dozed off just outside of Salinas and woke up near Soledad and then San Miguel. I dozed back off after I figured out where we where. I finally totally woke up when we took the first off ramp just at the north end of Paso Robles. I stayed awake through the whole time in Paso. I had to search for the orthopedic pillow. I didn't think that they would be that hard to find, boy was I wrong. We had to go to ten different stores before I found the pillow and it was $60 for the one pillow! It was worth every penny so I won't complain about the price. So far it has lasted for 9 months so I'm good.

The one we stay at I swear that they buy up the left over chips of soap and bag them for use at the motel. We stay there because the employees are really nice and fun to deal with. I do have to take my own pillow because the pillows they have just don't work for my bad neck injury. The other motels in the area are just as bad only difference is that they charge more per night. This time it was so much fun teasing them about not towing the car....we arrived on the 30th of July and were leaving on the 2nd of August. The paper we were to put in the car window showed that we were leaving the 2nd of July! I thanked them for not towing us yesterday (the 2nd of August) and showed the office manager the paper...she was going to take it but I snatched it back for our "oddities" file.

I never stayed in a Motel 6, but I cannot remember very uncomfortable chairs in the hotels and motels where we stayed. Too many times those who built furniture do not test them.

It took awhile for me to adjust to the seat on the couch. With the condition of my back and legs I have to be very careful about what I select to sit on. I need to find something to sit on out on the patio when I cut out bears. I can spend up to 8 to 10 hours cutting out the pieces for the bears. Then sewing them together it's 8 to 14 hours a day sewing them together. People don't think how important the "fit" of a chair is, but it truly is important, especially if you spend a lot of time using the chair. (Crud, I have to remember to list the office chairs on the loss list for the claim for the fire that destroyed the house.) Fortunately I adjusted to the couch so it is easy for me to sit and sew for 8 to 10 hours daily. I am looking forward to being able to set up the sewing area and not having to take it down again. The thing about going to a motel is that there is such a huge change between the motel and home furnishings. With Motel 6 the biggest change is between the chairs and the beds. It looks like I get to be home for the next three weeks so I can work like crazy on bears and other stuffies. I guess I should get breakfast eaten so I can get to work on bears and have them tagged and priced to set them up and hopefully sell a lot of them. So off to breakfast and off to work.

First, I admire for your skills. Sewing Stuffed Toys from used fur jackets is genius. It seems you are quite a handyman as while. As for the horrible chairs, well hope you just opted for the bed. Home sweet home.

Forgive my being so blunt, but my butt is still paying for the horrible chairs! I told the management about how horrible they are and that they must have been designed by the marquis de sade. The bed wasn't too much better, it was lumpy and hard....kind of like sleeping on either corn cobs or pine cones; I haven't made up my mind yet. I hate seeing little animals being killed for reasons that can be fulfilled by imitations. Why wear real fur when there is fake fur? So I buy up all the furs and remake them into something to honor the animals that gave their lives that snobbish humans can wear them to be even more snobbish. If I could be there when the fur protestors are active I would be there. Unfortunately my body won't let me be in the midst of the activities, so instead the money made from the real fur bears goes to help the real fur animals...I donate the money to the humane societies in my area. The dogs and cats at least benefit from the furs.

@BearArtistLady I admire your advocacy. Sorry about the horrible chairs and bed. The hotel management was thoughtless.
