Summertime is Carnival Time

Growing up I use to look forward to the summertime as that is when so many carnivals were around. I always loved going to them when I was a kid but I think I enjoyed it more when I brought my kids and then my grandsons. I loved the smell of the carnivals, especially the cotton candy machine. I could smell that the minute I walked on the carnival grounds. The other great smells were the popcorn, hot dogs and the waffles. I had to go on all the rides when I was younger and then taking the younger grandsons on the kiddie rides years later. Did you go to Carnivals and like anything special?

We had Carnivals in winter in Italy when I was a kid. During summer people leave the cities to go to the beaches.

@ramapo17 In Europe those Carnivals are disappearing, surely lack of big spaces where to place them.

@ramapo17 Exactly what we lack in Europe. Europe is half the surface of the United States with the double of people living here.

@LadyDuck They do take up a lot of room for the carnival and parking.

I don't like the smell of popcorn but I love the smell of cotton candy although it was called fairy floss in Australia. I'm not sure what it is called now although I've seen it often enough. I must take notice next time as to what they call it now.

We don't have Carnival here, but have the similar things such as temple fair bustling with activity.
From CIIC Jump to: navigation, search Baiyunguan Temple Fair in Beijing. Temple fairs (??) are very popular in the Spring Festival period. The tradition of a strolling temple fairs began as groups of vendors did business near Buddhist and Taoist temples wh
