We had almost a full week with higher than average temperature. In this country we have not the habit to have the temperature over the 90 F (33 Celsius) and almost no house and apartment has air conditioning. Keeping the shutters and windows closed during the hot hours helped to keep the house cool enough to rest during the night. During the day, we became creative to keep cool doing something interesting. Some days, we spent the hottest hours inside the local mall, strolling the shops. Other days we drove to the lake to have a walk under the cool porches in old villages. I am sharing some photos taken at the small village of Morcote, we also had lunch by the lake and it surely was pleasant. What do you do to beat the heat?

Lovely pics. We too are having hot weather, too hot for gardening or anything out of doors really. We don't have AC either but fortunately our main room stays quite cool as long as we keep the windows closed.

I have heard that you had a serious heat wave. Our bedroom is never too hot, we only need to keep the windows closed during the day and only open during the night. I go in the garden early in the morning to check the plants.

@jaboUK The plants want water, I see how much they suffer during the heat waves. It rained during the night and it is still raining now. The temperature is fine today.

I think I wrote we do not have a/c and I have no intention to install a/c for 7 hot days a year. May be you mean that YOU run A/C, I know that in your state almost everybody has it.

@JohnRoberts I had the feeling I misinterpreted. I know it's very hot in Los Angeles, we lived there 9 months and visited many times.

@LadyDuck You asked how I beat the heat and that's was my answer. It's very hot here 2-3 months in the year.

Drink plenty of fluids. I had similar suggestion for my father. I had told him, if we go and sit at the hospital lobby or eatery we could save on air conditioning bills. He said, as of now, we can manage. That is true.

@LadyDuck In our city it can be really hot. Nights would be around 33 and day time can be 45. So that you know how tough it is in summers.

@vandana7 The hottest night we had we reached 22 degrees Celsius. You can sleep without even a fan with 22 Celsius.

The nights are not too hot. Yesterday night it rained and today is not as bad as the past days. We expect a thunderstorm for the night and it should bring cool air.

Exactly, opening the windows during the day brings the heat inside. Hang a wet curtain during the night, it helps to cool the room faster.

@MALUSE but aren't open windows at night an invitation for thieves or other criminally minded persons?

@MALUSE I close the shutters on the ground floor, not the windows, the air comes inside and nobody may get inside. Upstairs I feel fully safe.

No, I have a floor fan in the room where we work, I do not need a handheld mist fan that would create even more humidity.

The temperature in your side seems to be similar to my city. It is a normal temperature for us in summer. Perhaps you shall feel lucky as it is quite hot in Spain and Italy. In hot summer I like to drink something cool. Of course having a swimming will be very nice.

Italy was hotter the past few days, Portugal and Spain are the hottest places right now. For Switzerland this is not normal, but it seems that our heat wave is over. Right now it is very pleasant. It rained and fresh air is coming inside from the window.

We are also have similar temperatures. I have no AC or use fans. I keep the sun out during the day and open the window when the sun goes down. I drink my water and eat my fruits and vegetables. So far, so good!

@LadyDuck I have no AC because I don't like it. Thankfully, the way I do things allows me to get a good night's sleep most of the time. It's also raining here. I think we have very similar weather.

@1hopefulman I also dislike AC a lot, it often gives me headaches. For a few hot days a year, spending money in AC is wasted money.

I eat ice cream, dunk my head under the water, but you have to know. 90 try 102 on average, but to be fair is a dry heat. The thing is its so heavy, it literally has a weight to it. What I call a lingering heat. Not leaving anytime soon sad to say.

@LadyDuck No, I have swamp cooler, big difference. To poor for AC but does a pretty decent job with a fan on you. Humidity plays a huge factor and one of the reasons swamp cooler sucks, but think you guys never bought one because its never hot there. Not normally. World is changing and think might want to go invest in one miss lady. Crossbones always gives sound advce. Did I just refer to myself in third person. I blame it on Trump.

@crossbones27 It is never hot enough to justify to buy an A/C unit, also considering that our walls are not the thin walls you have in the united states and to pass the cable through a foot and half thick wall is not easy and expensive.

You have 102 and air conditioning, try 90 for a week without air conditioning. I have been in Las Vegas with 115 it was not as bad as here at 90.
