Bad Knee

Several friends have asked about my better half's knee so I'll give you a run down. The physical therapist told us yesterday that therapy will not help his knee, so he a has an appointment with an orthopedic doctor in the morning. His knee has gotten so bad he can hardly walk and he's in a lot of pain. Thank you for your concern and I'll let you know what happens. I hope they can do something for him.

@RubyHawk I have severe arthritis in both knees. So, I know the pain he's going through. I hope the shot helped.

@just4him What does your doctor do for you? So far the cortisone shot hasn’t helped and he can hardly stand up because of the pain. He’s going to therapy in the morning. I have to get a wheelchair to take him in the hospital.

The answer was arthritis. The doctor gave him a shot in the knee and told him to continue his therapy and hopefully that will help. We don't know how much but any improvement will be good.

That's why he went to the ortho doctor, to get an evaluation. We thought it was because he tripped and fell on his knee, but the doctor said it's arthritis. He gave him a shot in the knee and told him to continue his therapy.

Thanks, the doctor wrote a prescription for pain, but he thought the injection would help and he might not need the pills.

@RubyHawk Good if the injection helps then without the pills.

@toniganzon Yes. I hate for him to have to take pain pills. It’s easy to get addicted.

@RubyHawk Not that I have heard of but it may be the cartilage or something inside that needs repairs. My mom had bone spurs in hers and that was really painful, they removed them and she is much better.

He can't tell that therapy has helped a bit. I have no idea what they will do. I've never heard of surgery for arthritis. Have you?

@arunima25 Maybe if the shot doesn't help the therapy will. He's taking pain pills now.

There's no way he could ride a bike. He can hardly move his leg. But maybe he can by the time he finishes his therapy.

@Mavic123456 I’m sorry. And riding a bike helps your pain ? Maybe you needed to strengthen your legs.

There are many types of surgery out there for knee's now. I hope that the orthopedic people will make suggestions that will work well for him. I don't even want to think of the possibility, or eventuality, of surgery to my joints.

Surgery was what we thought about but it's arthritis and surgery won't help. The doctor gave him an injection in the knee that he thought would help and he will continue with therapy. Hopefully he will be better.

Do you think they can do a total knee replacement in order to help him out? I hope they can find some kind of solution that will help him feel better and allow him to walk on it without pain.

@RubyHawk That just stinks that in this day and age of our medical advancements that they still can't really do much about arthritis. You would think that they could have found a cure or solution by now.

@moffittjc You would think so, but I believe arthritis is the one thing that nothing new has been found to help. I think if it gets bad enough they might replace the knee but I hate to think about that.

That's exactly what we thought would happen, but it's arthritis and surgery wont help. the doctor gave him a shot in the knee and said it might help and to continue with the therapy. He's going three times a week.

A young girl I met here, had some problem with her knee too often. In her case, the specialists have suggested to the parents of the girl, to just remove whatever there that bugged her. Seems as it is a hereditary conditiion in that family, her father got something from his knee removed 4-5 decades ago too and continued on with his life, playing sports happily.

Well, I hope it gets worked out. Life is too short to have to live it in pain. My back is always an issue and it has really changed my quality of life. But one must also move on.

@RubyHawk I agree. Surgery is never fun, but there does come a point when your quality of life is impacted enough that it makes sense.

I had to borrow a wheel chair at the hospital to push him around, but hopefully his knee will get better with therapy and he won't need one. We'll have to wait and see.

We hope so, the doctor said it's arthritis and surgery isn't called for. he got a shot in the knee and a prescription for pain pills. I hope he doesn't have to take many of those.
