Since our male dogs, 3 of them, are continuously running after 1 female dog (she might be ovulating ), I texted the veterinarian if he can suggest any medicine to stop the ovulation because the 3 males don't like to stop. He however told that castration is the best method of stopping the male dogs from pursuing the female; it is like a flashlight that immediately went off. I informed him that I will prepare the materials to be used when the surgery will push through. Then I searched on Google about what to do if the female dog smells good for the males- it stated applying methanol liniment on to the vaginal orifice will give out strong smell so the female secretions will be overpowered. It specified Vicks VapoRub. All female dogs, I applied Vicks. Now, the male dogs are resting beside the female dog. The scent of Vicks was successful in controlling the secretions, and the male dogs' sexual urge too.

Poor female dog, I pity her and I hope she will have no problems due to Vicks VapoRub. This is something I would have never done. Did you at least ask the vet first? Read this WARNING Vicks VapoRub, Campho-Phenique, etc. Camphor is readily absorbed across the skin, and should never be applied to dogs or cats due to risks for poisoning. Never use this again on your dog.

@ridingbet I have read the warning that I posted from an animal hospital. Now, this should my dog I would not apply the Rub after what I have read. The dog is yours, you decide.

The VapoRub is just a temporary management of the male dogs circling the female dog. I have already informed the vet that castration of the 2 male dogs will happen later.

@ridingbet ~If the dog sits down right after application, I would guess that the Vicks is all over. I have a female and worried about this but didn't want to put her in any pain or discomfort.

It is not applied internally anyway. Just outside the orifice.

@Shellyann36 the veterinarian decided not to neuter the pure Spitz male, Xander, because he could be a breeder

@lady1993 i read a post on Facebook that vicks vaporub applied in the abdomen can cause the area to sweat thus reducing the fat building in the belly.

Vicks has its own purpose and I think using it to halt the female dog's ovulation is not right. It is just a temporary process

Vicks should not be used permanently to female dogs in heat. That is just temporary action.

Wow, you now know what to stop the male dogs for wanting to mate the female dog. And it's cheaper than castration.

@ridingbet Setting aside the expense, it is still best to have them castrated once and for all. After that, you have no problem putting those vicks vaporub everytime the females are in heat.
