Preacher In The Waiting Room

This morning Tony had an appointment at a local clinic. There are a few of my family that are not morning people, me and Tony are included so we just sit, not talking. I brought my book. Tony chose a bench seat away from people, but I had to keep telling him to stop touching me, lol, Well I don`t want his arm on my back and his knee against me. But what REALLY got on our nerves was this guy, a younger man, was talking loud and had his bible open. At first glance I thought he was reading for all the people till I began to listen. Lord help me! When some man got on his phone and was talking this preaching man stopped and slowly turned his head like he had committed a crime. I raised my book up and he started again. Then I heard him say he was different than the rest of those drunks and dope heads at the center of hope, Tony looked over at me and I rolled my eyes. I knew then he was a doper in the drug rehab program and caught the religion bug to get released faster. Seen it 100 times. Now, I don`t mind someone talking about how God has helped them, I do not mind talking about the bible because I do believe but when you do like this guy I want to say " please shut up and save it for the center" he would ask people this or that and tell them they were wrong, its good to have pain God gave you pain. I love God and I am religious, I pray and try to be good. But in a public place like a clinic where sick people are waiting to be seen is not the place to force yourself on people with how you believe. When we left, Tony said "I was waiting for him to ask me some of his bull because I was gonna tell him to F off and shut up!" Yep! we are kin folk.

That would offend me and annoy me enough to tell him to shut up.

I don't know how long I'd be able to sit there and not say something

I think I'd have preferred waiting outside in the corridor. and I'm sure I would have told him to keep his insights to himself.

Tony was being strong, he was squinting at him and shaking his head.

I hadn't heard of this ploy to get out of a program or whatever. I would hate having to sit and listen to some joker forcing his opinion on me.

I probably would have done like you and Tony did, try to ignore him unless he asked me something directly, then I would have let him have it. I hate when people get all preachy in public. Especially in a place with sick people! Ugh. You are so right about addicts finding Jesus to manipulate their way out of the program faster. My brother always finds religion when he's in prison, then as soon as he's out he goes right back to his old ways. I don't mind if people are religious if it helps them, but I hate if they are just using it as a means of manipulation.
